Because mentioning it today people would celebrate it's cancellation and the saving of $40 million (Apollo 18,19,20 combined) as
the accomplishment.
It's no longer referred to as an "Apollo mission", but I recall they did refer to the Soyuz docking test as one at the time.
Pretty sure they used one of the remaining SaturnVs to launch Skylab and the command modules on SaturnIs to rendezvous with Skylab.
