Those are some great movies. The Battle of Midway especially, as it was shot during an actual Japanese attack.

Yea, they are awesome, and the directors took big risks to tell the story. Same with 'Report from the Aleutians', where they attacked a Japanese base on US soil.

There were some other films that "Five Came Back" discusses, where some of the battles were already over, so the director took a battalion and re-created the battle on site. 8O

Propaganda pieces for sure, but they had to counter Nazi propaganda films with a few of their own.

That’s how they did it in WW1 too.

"Doomsday Preppers"

Yea, I know you are rolling your eyes right now. Hear me out!

Sure, some of these people are very antisocial, and some of the stuff ranges from weird to borderline child abuse. But, they do have some good ideas on emergency preparedness that everyone should consider!

From hurricanes to ice storms to fires that devastate cities, natural disasters are only going to get worse and no one is going to be there to help you for up to a week. Plan accordingly!

"Norsemen"

If "The Vikings" was written by Michael Palin from Monty Python . . . ;)

A lot of satire, and reflections of today's messed up culture, projected on the year 791.

"A users Guide to Cheating Death"

Quote:
At its core, Caulfield says the show is about health, dieting, genetics and exercise – the things Caulfield calls fundamental to health – then looking at things that are popular right now.

“It’s a combination of what’s hot and what’s important.”

The first episode is about the current trend of detoxification cleansing.

“What really upsets me is when there’s something that doesn’t have science behind it, but is given this veneer of science. And that increasingly happens,” he said. “Even things that are not scientific, increasingly they’re marketed as scientific.

But Caulfield said he’s not about mocking or unfairly critiquing what others may follow in their lifestyles. He said he had a lengthy conversation with a woman he called an “extreme juicer” who was using that method as part of her cancer treatment.

“It’s a really honest conversation.”

A new season of Narcos is available, this time in Mexico. What I particularly like are the TV footage and the Spanish which give it a more authentic feel.

"The Final Table"

I thought parts were a bit kitschy, but seeing all those Michelin Stars in one room was jaw dropping.

Minor spoiler: The only Canadian in the competition does very well. I might even make a special journey to no-mans' land (Calgary) so eat in his restaurant.

"The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina"

For being based on the Archie Comic, it's pretty dark!

I checked it out during a slow period. Nothing else to watch, somebody recommended it, so I checked it out.

Loved it. Was sucked into a weekend watchathon.

There's another one something like it in the Teen girl genre with wider watchability called "Impulse." It's not Netflix but you can get the first couple episodes for free on YouTube like with "Cobra Kai."

The Netflix one that seems to have been getting a viral buzz for awhile now is Bird Box, with Sandra Bullock. Seems to be kind of like the movie "A Quiet Place" only with sight as the scary thing instead of sound. The scary things, as described, sound like the 'Weeping Angels' from Doctor Who. Haven't seen it yet but it's lined up and ready to watch on the weekend.

There's some pretty watchable stuff for the wider audience stuff in the teen girl genre lately. A Discovery of Witches from the UK is another one.
