Perfect time to bring Ayn Rand's philosophy to the masses.

John Galt is the alcoholic that mixed up the plans for Goderich and Galt, Ontario.
Well, he had some help from Sir John A. in both the drinking and mixing up of the plans, according to legend

Wasn't the 'greed is good' nonsense done already, and much better, by Gordon Gecko? :|

He built Guelph too. It must have been a beautiful plan in the 1800s, but its streets are laid out like a spoked wheel! Driving in Guelph isn't so much stupidity as lunacy. I'd wager Guelph is worst city in Canada for driving. Who's John Galt? FUCK JOHN GALT!

Atlas Shrugged was mediocre novel at best. But that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be a bad movie. There's been lots of great movies made of bad books. Howard Hawks wagered Ernest Hemmingway that he could make a great film out of Hemmingway's worst novel: To Have and Have Not. Hawks won the bet. But to make it a good film of Atlas Shrugged, they'll need to quickly dispense with the objectivist nonesense. Rand's a young man's philosopher and if they let the Randian philosophy in to the film, it'll be a complete bore for anyone over 25. If they can tell the tale in a less ham-handed way, who knows, maybe Atlas Shrugged could come off more like a contemporary re-telling of "Lost Horizon", which is one of the great films in movie history.

Unfortunately, many viewers saw Gordon Gecko as the hero in the movie.

Ayn Rand was to philosophy as what L. Ron Hubbard was to religion. Key words and phrases with both individuals correctly are 'grifter' with 'suckers born every minute' following closely behind.

Judging by the standards and practices of the Wall Street environment he was situated in Gecko is still very much the hero today to a great many of the executive bosses there and to their lapdogs in Congress and at the hate-radio/FOX News media.

No doubt, with the only difference between American and Canadian white collar criminals is that our ones actually stand a chance of going to prison. The American ones get turned into idols of worship or get elected to the office of Governor of Florida.

SPOILER ALERT!

I agree 100%. What I find most bothersome is the MEANNESS that Rand inspires in her readers. Her work is mesmerizing on the weak-minded. As a philosophy, Rand's is a complete failure. But as a novelist, she gets a little more credit in my books. "Anthem" was a cool story, "The Fountainhead" is a very good novel and "Atlas Shrugged" has, at its core, a neat concept to it: like minded rebels retreat from society to form their own new society? It had potential as a work of fiction. Had Rand been better able to separate her politics and philosophy from her story-telling, she may have been a great novelist. If my aunt had nuts, she'd be my uncle, I suppose.

Myself, I think Ayn Rand was a dogmatic radical. However, she surely brings some philosophical questions.

I've already read about your position about Ayn Rand's philosophy. Can you give us more of your thinking about her ?

Like many philosophers, I think she put together enough elements of truth to appeal to certain subgroups, but I got turned off by her heavy antireligious stance. Her books were very dry to me - like she was trying to drive her viewpoint into the reader rather than simply present it.

Nah, I'll pass. It's really that uninteresting to me. She was a carpet-muncher, not that there's anything wrong with that.

That's your second allusion to her sexuality. Is that really your only argument ?

What I retain from her philosophy is that every choice should be based on reason and that reason brings you to achieve what's best for your own good. That philosophy can be interpreted differently depending of the person's goal for achievement.

How is that nonsense ?

Come on. Surely you can differentiate between a statement and an argument.

Swell. I'm glad Rand is working out for you.
