Fantastic pics Martin.

One of two places in Europe I've always wanted to go. That and the Vimy memorial.

Your right,it's just private.Pretty sad when I saw the state of the graves here today.
Most of the markers from the ww1 vets are completely gone.
This one stood out though when I read the inscription on it.

Private or Rifleman are Canadian and are the same infantry rank.

One of the most touching stories I've heard was from my mother's uncle who visited Juno with some a couple of friends he served with. Each of them took a small bag of soil(this was long before airline restrictions) from Manitoba with them and sprinkled it on the beach. He said a lot of men died on the beach and never made it home, so they were bringing a small piece of home to them.

I brought sand home from Juno beach and if I ever get there again I’m going to bring some Canadian earth back with me to do the same thing in one of the cemeteries.

i have a little bit as well.. if i go back, i'll definitely let everyone know before...
