A student sent me these pictures from a trip up to Alishan, which is about a 2 hour drive from here. I've been there in the spring and summer but the drive up in the winter can be......challenging, and therefore I haven't done so. The trai ride up is really nice. It's a restored Japanese steam engine from the colonial period when the Japanese harvested the forests.

Well considering that this location is a two hour drive away and our current temp is 28 C right now, I'd say the contrast is pretty wonderful because I can get to there and leave this behind

smoggy? This is a clear day. Actually when it is stinking hot and the UV is between 10 and 15 it is quite clear. Right now it is quite smoggy. Last week this is what it was like as I was headed into Ikea.
