Thanks very much for the Congratulations!

I should really be in bed by now as I have a meeting with the outgoing MP at 11am.

But I wanted to jump on and say HI. Yes Martin14 Its not a dream, though I've taken to pinching myself in the morning. It hasn't sunk in yet

To be honest its already been incredible and insane at the same time.

Many Canadians voted for change. Now its time to Be that change. Like many of you I'm not excited with a Conservative Majority but that is the mandate they have been given. But I am very excited that Canadians also chose to elevate the NDP to official opposition status to confront that Government and keep them on track. As Jack said, we prefer proposition vs opposition, but we will oppose them when they are off track.

I'm also excited to finally be able to make good use of my bilingualism.

Parliament will be back in session before you know it and there's the Speech from the Throne, the Budget and most likely the start of the crime omnibus bill before the summer break (which is a break in name only) all these things will be happening as most MP's are getting offices, hiring staff, finding constituency space and getting oriented all while countering what we expect will be some proposals that are unfriendly and wrongheaded.

The best way to oppose many of these things is to a) make them so unpopular the government doesn't dare do them and b) proposing something better that is more popular.

The NDP will do a great job on both fronts, but at the end of the day its the voters that will ultimately decide which programs the Conservative Government advances.

Well, I can't seem to help but write long posts...

Congratulations even if you are one of Jacky's lackeys. Can you take one of those Nerf guns with you and shoot your fellow MPs, regardless of party affiliation, when they make dumbass comments?

PS martin and I are pissed we weren't allowed to vote this year.

Even if I was a lackey it would still be better then being a drone

Why weren't you both allowed to vote?

Having been a former resident of Scarborough Southwest for 22 years, my parents have been in the riding since 1977, it's nice to have some new vision in the riding. Enjoy your time on the hill, and serve those people well!

I will of course do my best. My family has called the area home for 80 years and I have four generations of family still in the riding.

So there's a vested interest in doing a good job too!

Which area were you in "On the ice"?

I knew I recognized the name when I saw it, took me a few minutes to remember that it was good ol bb. No wonder you disappeared from Ikariam last year! Unfortunately CKA fell apart there, we were leaderless (kind of like the Liberals!) and everyone peeled out. Some of us still kick around on the server, but who knows for how long.

Anyways congrats on making it, I know you'd been trying hard for many years at different levels. I may not be quite so far left of centre ideologically as the Orange wave (and frankly I'd be a little more scared of an NDP government at this stage than I am of the Conservative majority though that much blue is frightening) but a few years as the official opposition will be good seasoning and hopefully prepare the left--united or not--to reclaim control of the House.

ahhh, Ikariam. Yeah lots of things happened there. Mostly though it was a combination of me having to take a break because I was a) working a job as Deputy Returning Officer for the UofT Student elections AND b) moving to Alberta for a Job while some in game clan members got us embroiled in a war most of the members weren't ready or willing to be in. So by the time I was available it had all gone to poop.

Glad to hear some folks are still playing. I know some folks went to play with other in game groups.

As for me, well there's a bunch of nails in the 'gaming coffin', but I'm not giving up the ghost entirely. Still gonna find some time for gaming, just not much.

The job is a little time consuming, but its EXACTLY what I want to be doing. Going to be able to help a lot of people in the next 4 years and hopefully even more after that.
