http://ca.news.yahoo.com/ignatieff-accepts-rick-mercer-debate-offer-20110402-122829-354.html

This could be fun. Especially if Rick gets to do a little wrap up rant at the end.

This would be great for getting people to watch who would never watch a leaders debate. It would be short though with the 5 question limit from his majesty.

Harper won't do it. I don't know why though...he could just say anything regardless of what he actually plans on doing - it has worked for him in the past.

I think Ignatief would chew him up in a 1-on-1 debate.

Ever notice how the general population tends to believe what one person (Harper) says about Ignatief (attack ads) yet won't believe what thousands of people say about Harper?

Thousands of people no doubt taking the "he's scary" route....it's been tried for years...perhaps if the message was different, the result would be too.

I thought that this was originally a Mercer April Fool's joke that Ignatieff didn't get. [huh]

One-on-one debate train has ‘left the station’: Harper
Quote:
Mr. Ignatieff has accepted Mr. Mercer’s offer. But Mr. Harper said he’s moved on.

“The train has left the station,” the Conservative leader told reporters in Ottawa on Sunday. “The networks made their decision and we have accepted their decision.”

Hahahah.. He's blaming "The Networks". That's rich.

Seriously, any chance that I might have voted conservative has pretty much left the station in light of Harper's refusal to debate one on one. I don't like Iggy much either, and as an albertan the idea of a Liberal gov't kinda scares me, but atleast Iggy has balls.

Yea, a one-on-one debate would change the landscape so much.

I don't know if that's sarcasm or not EB, but while I don't personally think it would do a whole lot it's not so much that it won't happen that pisses me off. It's that Harper originally challenged Ignatief, and then flip flopped immediatly when Iggy accepted. And now he offers excuses that quite frankly are an insult to everyone's intelligence.

It was Harper's idea! He called Iggy out, and now he's backing down. It's would be funny if it wasn't Canada's Prime Minister.

That and the fact he's "just visiting" means he isn't afraid to make some enemies to fix our economy.

While Harper is a chicken shit, I'm still voting conservatives. I'm not going to not vote for somebody because they chickened out on a 1 vs 1 debate. It lowers my opinion of them but I'm in it for there policies not there balls. Have to give Ignatieff some credit but this won't get me to vote for him.

In fairness to both leaders, Canadians don't care about the debates in general, let alone a pissing contest between two boring guys.

This issue isn't even on the radar anymore.
