Sun Media owner Pierre Karl Peladeau took Muttart to task Wednesday for supplying false information to the news organization that inaccurately portrayed Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff as a planner of the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

I don't understand this one. Why even bring up Iraq? Harper can't get any ground on that, because he was singularly outspoken against Canada's decision to forego the invasion.

Both Igantieff and Harper made crtically bad decisions at a crtical time. Luckily we had Chretien as PM and he saw right through the smokescreen.

Good for SUN media. Outing this guy chowed a lot of class

But I keep hearing the Sun is just a Conservative propaganda machine. Surely they wouldn't expose their party to crticism! 8)

I heard the same thing--FOX News North and all that. I don't really know--we don't have a SUN paper in Vancouver. Regardless of their slant, I won't be using SUN in the same sentence as FOX News.

I thought Vancouver did have a Sun paper. [huh]

I've watched it a couple of times and while it does have a conservative bent it is not the horrible nightmare that the left told is it would be, before it even aired.

Well, the Sun in Edmonton and Calgary are very right wing.

Here it basically is a Conservatvie propagnada tool, although I find very amusing that the classifieds are filled with ads for escorts and massage parlours.

According to website, the Vancouver Sun is part of the Canwest/Global chain, not the SunMedia chain.

This made me look up the newspaper "Le Soleil" here in Québec, just to confirm to myself that it has nothing to do with The Sun.

I found one interesting piece of info:
Quote:
Le Soleil rose from the ashes of L'Électeur, the official newspaper of the Liberal Party of Canada, which shut down in December 1896. The first edition was published on December 28, 1896. one day after the disappearance of its predecessor, which shut down because the Catholic clergy had forbidden it to parishioners when the newspaper criticized the Church's electoral interference.

Of course Ignatieff helped plan the invasion. He's a secret American.

I'm assuming you're trying to highlight the 'Anti-Americanism' in the campaign.

I really don't think too many people care about Iggy hanging around in the States. Maybe some do but it's such a pointless topic that it should fall by the wayside. And thankfully I haven't heard much of the hate recently.

The political parties here, all of them, use nationalism to promote their message, often contrasting themselves with their more 'American' or 'Un-Canadian' opponents.

I heard Iggy throw around 'American' as a synonym for 'Private' while championing his 'true Canadian heritage' and whatnot. Harper has been wearing a ridiculous Roots Canada sweater his whole campaign. Layton claims he's offering 'real Canadian leadership', whatever that means. Nationalism, it gets votes.

We're sorry that you're in the cross-fire.

I knew they had a Sun, I just didn't know what parent company they belonged too. [B-o]

I'm still waiting for the leak of the Auditor Generals report that exonerates the CPC for possibly bribing people living near the G8 summit with millions in infrastructure.

Wah. I never made the connection "Le Soleil" <--> "Sun" and haha it's quite anecdotal that it's own by Power Corp and is the main competitor of Le journal de Québec, owned by Quebecor.
