My God. CKA stopped sending me response notifications, so I didn't realize this thread kept going after my last post. Now that I've stumbled across it again, it's like the overall average mental age has been lowered by one year for every day I've been gone.

In a desperate attempt to bring back civilized discourse, I shall dig all the back to a response I received on page four, since I wasn't aware of is existence until just now. Sorry about that....

As a US citizen I suppose you know as much about Canadian politics as we know about yours (?) and perhaps you do.

I make no claims to be in any sort of special category either way. I'm sure there are Americans and Canadians alike who know more than me about the politics of America, Canada, or both, just as I'm sure there are Americans and Canadians alike who know less. I at least try to be generally knowledgeable, though. Of course, unlike the politicians who were the subject of this cartoon, I'm not quite vain enough to declare my own success--all I can say is that I try, and you'll have to tell me whether I pull it off.

It has stirred up considerable animosity against Harper and this is all we can ask. Her detractors get pissed off and say she looked silly, to many of us she looked pretty good and the more this hangs on the better she will look to more.

See, here's the part where you lose me because I fail to make the basic logic of this sentiment work in my head. If a sign that literally just says "Stop Harper" and has nothing else going for it other than being sort of a pun (it's a Stop sign than says "Stop Harper," get it?) is really all it takes to stir up "considerable" animosity against him, why weren't any of the other parties able to do it when they had the chance? Why weren't any of them able to come up with anything that stuck enough to even prevent the Conservatives from gaining a Majority, let alone actually decrease anything, when they all had an entire campaign to do it? Surely it can't be that Brigette DePape and her Stop Harper sign are smarter than the entire combined advertising teams of the entire combined Canadian left.

I guess you really had to be there.

This is a topic that seems to inflame and enrage......so I must ask you something really personal if I may:
Do you like raisins with your porridge? I do, it tastes really really good....oh yes and with cream too!

I'm too American for porridge. I have oatmeal, which is okay with sugar I guess.

Oatmeal! Very quaint and American I'm sure. D'ya mix milk or water with it? I guess it's cold too, Eh?

Oatmeal Porridge recipe:

Oatmeal Porridge Recipe: In a medium sized saucepan bring the 4 cups of water to boil. Sprinkle the oatmeal over the boiling water, stirring constantly to prevent any lumps from forming. Dump in a handful of raisins. Add the salt and reduce the heat to low and allow the porridge to simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serve with brown or white sugar and rich milk or cream. Canadians and other culinary sophisticates may use real Maple syrup and yogurt.

Makes 4 servings. ( Unless you are 18 years old and then it might make 1 serving )

Taseko, you are being intellectually dishonest.

Remember when that one representative guy (Wilson, I think) yelled, "You lie!" at Obama? This is almost exactly the same thing.

I am reluctant to eat anything with a consistency less solid than steamed rice. I microwave my oatmeal. Cold, wet food is seldom appetizing to me.

Taseko, the rage on this thread is caused by two highly polarized sides.
Side 1 says, "Ms. DePape showed brave disregard for her job when she held up a sign that expressed her political beliefs."

Side 2 says, "Ms. DePape held up a red octagonal sign reading, "Stop Harper!" when it was inappropriate to do so. In doing so, she exposed her knee-jerk political mindset by failing to specify what Harper is doing. She also revealed her arrogance by doing so mere weeks after an election, as, regardless of her intent, she appears to be making the statement that her opinion is more important or valid than that of the majority of the Canadian electorate."

Side 1 is outraged that anyone would criticize Ms. DePape's statement, and conveniently forgets that Canuckistan doesn't enshrine freedom of speech like its slovenly southern neighbor, and that even in THISISAMERICAGODDAMMIT, we frown on such informality.

Side 2 is disgusted that anyone would come to Ms. DePape's defense, since they view her act as ignorant and arrogant, as outlined above.

She is kinda cute, though.

I believe the correct spelling is Amurica, or 'Murica for short.

Duly noted; I spelled it that way because THISSMURRCAGODDAMMIT is less readable.
