Wingnut or no, you're passing along the latest far right talking point which is that teleprompters are equated with turning off one's brain. Of course this is patented ideological group think...

I had doubts on exactly how long Pres. Obama was speaking when he thanked himself, being that 2 secs. or 2 mins. into his speech would make a world of difference. According to this article, he was only on his introduction, and as far as the author could "subjectively" tell, the Pres. was only joking. Without a video to watch his reaction to his mistake or his delivery of the joke, there is no way to really confirm that he was joking.

All my conclusions are what I came to on my own through my own research of the topic. The only reason why I came to the conclusion that he "turns his brain off" was because someone who at least practices their speech would know right away when something has gone wrong.

Let's talk about PM Cowen instead of Obama for a moment. He said "We begin today by welcoming a strong friend of the United States," and continued on for another 19 seconds before he finally realized he was saying the wrong speech. How many here thinks this man has a brilliant mind and is an excellent public speaker? Anyone? Now, I don't know if you actually read my post or just skimmed through it like Gelmax did, partially my fault since it's so stinkin long, but I said I had no proof as to how bad Obama's goof up was. If he was similar to PM Cowen where it took several seconds before he realized his error, then my argument on Obama's brain status during his speeches definitely applies. If not, then it doesn't.

Besides, this was a party, not a national speech. I have found the speech on youtube, but the part in question was not there. That and the fact that his speech was less than 4 mins means that he probably could've done with some index cards instead of a teleprompter. I do give Obama props on how he did at the townhall meetings in LA, not so much on Leno's show the night after though. I wonder if that was the real Obama, or him just trying to fit in with a bad (both in judgment and in humor) joke.

Oh, and I don't like Koolaid, I prefer sprite. Tastes better when spiked. And just so you know, I threw Gelmax a bone by providing an article that proved his assertion that Obama's goof wasn't a goof but a "joke" when he didn't even bother to provide one of his own. C'mon are you running off personal bias or are you willing to challenge what you believe by doing some research and showing what you got. Throw me a frikkin bone here, man. Read what I wrote, then comment. Or at least throw in some basis for your arguments like

Sorry but nowhere in the source articles claimed that it was a joke. Fortunately for you, I have found an article that supports your claim. I looked for it mostly because I was having suspicions about exactly how bad Obama's gaffe was but it supports your claim too.

That's because the source articles are news, not blog posts, so they're reporting only the events that actually happened, without inferring too deeply into what they may or may not have meant. It's part of the whole "avoiding bias" thing. Since Obama didn't follow it up by saying "Hahaha, I was just joking", they're leaving it up to the reader to decide whether he was joking or not. The reason I assumed he was joking was because he'd just finished reading his speech. There was no reason for him to go back up to take over for Cowen unless he was trying to cover for the teleprompter mistake by using it as part of a joke. More significantly, though, he'd just read his speech, and then Cowen came up and read part of his speech. To say that he could then come up and accidentally mistake someone else's speech for the one he'd already given just minutes before is to be biased against him. Even for a right-wing talking point it's a fairly ridiculous thing to accuse him of, because for it to be true he has to be illiterate, have no short-term memory, and have no idea what he is doing or why he is doing it.

Umm, so you were taking it completely by faith that the man was joking? You know that according to your argument, you have absolutely no basis to believe that your scenario is what actually happened, right? But then, I suppose this is the only logical alternative if Obama isn't "illiterate, have no short-term memory, and have no idea what he is doing or why he is doing it". That is the point I was pushing all along, maybe he's not so extremely bad as that, but if Obama was saying his speech for as long as PM Cowen, then that is pretty darn bad. Sad to say we still have no video of that, and probably never will. Besides that, it was a 4 minute speech as can be viewed on youtube (the link is in my above post), why does he need teleprompters for that? I guess he's just trying to save the trees? With the help of DC's coal plants, he'll just continue to contribute to global warming with his teleprompter usage.

PS. Don't take the last 2 sentences too seriously, I'm using sarcasm there. I'd like a sarcasm emote.

Murray_Smith: if you're quoting Rush, it's "human being" rather than "person".

Every time you mention Rush without his last name, it takes me a second or so to realize you're not talking about the band.

Heh, I'll try to say "Limbaugh" instead. Actually, I don't know the band. I know of them, and I gather that someone in the band is an Ayn Rand fan, but I don't actually know their music.
