That's basically true, but (I believe by law, though perhaps by custom in some cases) leaves the onerous of providing interpreters or other language services on the government itself rather than on the individual seeking those services. We provide services in all languages precisely because we have no official language, and many Americans advocate to make English the official language precisely to shed that governmental duty.
I do not. I don't think the financial savings and logistic aid of English as an official language is worth compromising the Statue of Liberty's call to the world to send us their huddled masses yearning to breathe free. I think English as an official language is just another door shut in the faces of the outside world, and I oppose that elitist, isolationist attitude.
