Filibuster Cartoons
Title: Canada's Obamas (click to view)
Date: November 13, 2008
In recent weeks a number of high-profile Liberal politicians have announced they have no desire to seek the leadership of the Liberal Party, including Frank McKenna, John Manley, and Peter Kennedy. That means the front runners will likely be, as everyone has always assumed they would be, Michael Ignatieff and Robert Rae.

Not much charisma between the two of them, which seems to be why so many Liberals claim to want to see Justin Trudeau, the handsome and well-spoken son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau enter the race as a darkhorse.

I think Justin would make a great prime minister...eventualy. I say eventually because it is only his second year in politics. He needs more experience but do think he has the potential to be a strong leader one day.

He was recently asked if he would be interested by the Montreal Gazette I believe and said not at the moment and if he would it would not be for another 20 or so years. In my opinion, he would win in a landslide

You are kind of right. I am basing it on the impression I get from him. He seems honest and actually cares about the people. This is what the liberal party desperately needs after the sponsorship scandal ruined their image.

Obama actually earned most of his credentials. Chicago Law school graduate. Legislative experience in the Illinois State Senate. United States Senator. If I were Obama I'd be insulted by any comparison to the Trudeau hatchling. What is Trudeau's major contribution anyway, playing the typical Liberal wide-eyed dreamer repeatedly saying around the the conference table, "gosh it sure would be nice if..."?

Next to Sarah Palin, Justin Trudeau is about the most ridiculously unbelievable lightweight I've ever seen in my entire life. If the Liberals are dumb enough to choose this vapid pretty boy as a leader then say hello to the boiling over of separatism practically overnight in both Quebec and Alberta. People have long memories and neither province is ever going to forget how they got royally fucked over by Justin's dear dead daddy.

Well, Justin has no intentions to become Prime Minister at the moment. He will not pull a Sarah Palin :P

I agree with you on that point. He is NOT ready. He also does not have the same credentials as Obama

He'll never be ready; he has a crazy mother and a hated father. His name will prevent him from ever bringing Canada together.

If the liberals were smart 8O they’d stay away from the POSPET spawn.

Well, I think a majority of Canadians except those in the Prairies view him somewhat favorably.

Then again I am from Quebec where the vast majority speak highly of him so I may be somewhat alienated. I was not even born when he was in power so.......I shouldn't have a say in this anyways :P.

My thoughts exactly, he's all sizzle and no steak. He is still young so it's kinda early to judge him so harhly but he lives in his fathers shadow and living in the past is not going to lead us in the future.

This current ego bout between Iggy and Rae seem more about each other trying to one up each other then build up the party or the country so when Justin ascends to leadership there maybe nothing left for him to claim. The liberal party needs new blood and a return to the centre not gimmicks and lip service.

What about him or his experience would make him a good PM?

I think all pretty people are honest and basically care about the people, don't you think? Like prince Trudeau, for example. He gives me hope. Hope for a change. Change I can believe in. :D
