Nobody seems to be researching their stories anymore and I don't know if it's just being lazy or to pig headed to think that they could be wrong.

Perhaps we should have a Canadian "fatwa" against the Red Eye guys. Any Canadian can capture them and make them go to Bible Camp with Stockwell Day! That should learn 'em.

The Canadian Vietnam Memorial is a few blocks from my house. I think I even have a picture of it. Plus, we weren't exactly neutral either, Canadians were more than happy to help the US in the beginning of the conflict, when we still had personnel working for the organization that monitored the split of North and South Vietnam (had India and Poland on there too, trying to remember the name)

Yeah, I just had a discussion from an Italian in Switzerland about how stupid US culture is and how Europe will one day beat America. I basically twitched and kept my mouth shut. It's irritating to say the least. Hey, next time a World War breaks in Europe, just invade the UK and Iceland and tell the mainland to fuck itself.

I think the way the media works is they show the spectrum of opinion between the Democrats and the Republicans in Washington. Often that is very narrow. You look at the lead up to the invasion in Iraq, the core, the major Democrats joined with the Republicans in enabling that. And you look at now with health care, the same thing. But the fact is, the majority of Americans fall outside of that opinion. You are hearing from the same media that present two sides of the same coin that the majority of Americans have long since tuned out because their POV is discounted out of hand. Unless the media is talking about how an issue effects the GOP or the dems on an issue your not going to hear a dam thing. Establishment journalists are so embedded into the establishment that they're so completely insular and out of touch from what public opinion actually is. And polls show that huge numbers of issues and positions that are held by large numbers of Americans are ones that are virtually never heard in media discussions. Quote: Propagandist : the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person
ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause ; also : a public action having such an effect
Journalism : the collection and editing of news for presentation through the media b: the public press c: an academic study concerned with the collection and editing of news or the management of a news medium 2 a: writing designed for publication in a newspaper or magazine b: writing characterized by a direct presentation of facts or description of events without an attempt at interpretation c: writing designed to appeal to current popular taste or public interest What Fox does is clearly on the propaganda side then journalism. They are blatant but by no means alone. Frankly more of the US has tuned out of their own media for so long that the media is only talking to itself and has become a defacto propaganda stooge ala TASS news of the old soviet Union.

I can't believe another thread was opened on this topic. Yes it was rude, but get over it already.

Since when is it "The world against the US"? Everybody has his own burden to carry, and every country makes fun of another one. The Belgian/Dutch jokes, US/Canada jokes. Suck it up already. Why the hell is everything taken so seriously?
From what I see in my little part of the GWN, people don't give a shit about the rest of the world. Most don't even know there is a bigger world out there than just the 10 km2 they live on.

I agree Brenda. Most people do not know a lot outside their own boarders and that is not just the US.
I don't think that this is being taken serious at all however, rather what has happened is because so many have seen it and commented upon it the tin ear of the media has picked up on it so in effect the story is about people like you reacting at this point. In effect your outrage is the story now because the media is so out of touch with issues.
For example: Pseudonym rage against Zip's comment. That is the story here, not that some 3am talk show slagged upon the CAF. He's pissed at the outrage and the irony is his outrage is the story now and that most people have long since tuned out as Zip has pointed out correctly because the only issue the media talks about is... itself.

I don't understand why this turned into "America insulted us!" This was never the case. It was basically an opportunity for those of us who already knew to point out to the rest of Canadians and even our American friends that Fox News cannot be taken seriously. That's all.

You have absolutely no awareness of how you are perceived outside the US. Believe me, it is nothing like the above. Blame it on a substandard education system and culture that tends to propagandize America's role int he world far more than it should.

I'm sorry, didn't you just say Americans don't have the global awareness to be thin-skinned? Don't you even hear the insulting condescension in your own words?

I try not to judge the USA people by what I see on TV and the news. I don't have anything negative to say about the ones I've met, either in Canada or in the states.
We've gone camping in Tennessee, probably one of the places a lot of Canadians would qualify as Hicks-Ville and the people were most gracious and polite. One waitresse sat and talked with us for about a half-hour (her family were tobacco and cotton producers).
When you actually meet people, your perception change a lot.
I have Indian (India), Russian, Romanian, Chinese and Lebanese co-workers. No commies and religious zelots here.

I was in Florida recently, and I heard two things on American TV that really made me scratch my head: 1) When reporting on the plane that crashed into the Hudson River in New York, the media blamed the incident on "Canadian Geese", not "Canada geese", but Canadian. The media literally played this incident up as a Canadian conspiracy to kill American airline passengers. Did they think the geese were holding Canadian passports and were just visiting the Big Apple on vacation? American birds would never attempt such a dangerous activity as to fly around airports. 2) A cold weather blast rolled in and the American media blamed the weather on Canadians, like we intentionally blew cold, arctic air into the southern states purposely to fuck-up their beach weather.
