Labour, colour, neighbour? Yeah, you Yanks are ones to be talking about taking liberties with language. If you lot had your way, we'd all be living in hoses.

Thank you for demonstrating your grasp of the language. There's no need for me to insult you when you're doing just fine in that regard all on your own.

I am opposed to the Americanization of the English Language in Canada.

Keep that ridiculous nonsense out of here.

Change what they want. I'll spell things the way I always have. Which of course is wrong at least 10% of the time lol

Manitoba had an issue with the three day long Grade twelve English exams getting leaked last month. It was funny to see the comments from students who wrote in on the issue to the papers, every comment had a number of things spelled wrong or grammatically wrong with it. Our grade ten babysitter emails us and I have to insert commas and change the tense to figure out what she really is trying to say. I should ask her to just "text" language us from now on.

If what people here mean byt he "language evolves" means evolves via lack of education, teaching and proper learning then yes, I guess it is evolving.

I consider it Americanization, and I consider England almost more Americanized then Canada.

They've been drinking too much.

Do not change current English words.

Americanization?

American English.

Simplified English basically.

I define American English as being the layman language for people who don't know what "layman" means.

Fortunately, we do have you to help illustrate the meaning of 'layabout'.

LOL

Reminds me for some Americans I knew while living overseas who instead of saying, "they don't speak English" would consistently say 'They don't speak American."

Corrected your spelling for ya.

Done by an immigrant, whose second language is not English, but German

Its the way it is, no point to say anything about it. Ive seen examples of english being spelled out letter for letter like they do in finnish, and it looks way to dull for my liking...

I just noticed that you prefer to use the Americanized version of Americanized.

Wouldn't a linguistic purist such as yourself prefer to say Americanised?

And isn't it just fu**ing BEAUTIFUL that you're hearing this from an American?

How does complexity in spelling add to its richness?

Here's an example:

"Now is the winter of my discontent
Made glorious summer by this son of York"

If "son" and "sun" were spelled the same, it would lose its meaning.

There's tons in Shakespeare--little turns that depend upon a play on homynyms, or synonyms. Magic.
