Filibuster Cartoon
Title: Franco-Americano (click to view)
Date: May 08, 2007

Nicolas Sarkozy was elected president of France on Sunday. The right-winger is from the same party as the outgoing president, Jacques Chirac, but unlike Mr. Chirac Sarkozy has made much of his desire to be a close ally of the United States.

Of course, being French and all, Mr. Sarkozy\'s conservative and pro-American credentials are not as firm as some in the US may wish. He\'s been very critical of the Bush administration\'s stance on global warming, for example, and opposed the Iraq war. Plus he is strongly opposed to illegal immigration, which is more than we can say of the Republican Party, har har har.

What do you think of Sarkozy? Was he the candidate you would have voted for?

I personally would have wanted for Bayrou to win, but I guess his changes were rather slim.

Sarkozy is cozying up to the Americans because he's afraid the Germans are getting bored?

It'll be interesting to see how Bush and Sarkozy work with each other in the upcoming months. I honestly don't see that much happening of major import, to be completely honest.

I can't help but think that when Bush looks at all these people coming to power, like Merkel, Harper, Sarkozy, et al, he can't help but think "where were you all in 2003?" It's funny that other countries are turning more right and pro-Bush at a time when America itself is moving in the other direction.

I'm sure that soon the Americans will be decrying us Europeans as ultra-liberal right-wing nutjobs. :D

A blogger who's site I frequent commented the most anti-American administration in the West in 2009 may be in Washington D.C.
