Filibuster Cartoon
Title: Generation Gap (click to view)
Date: January 11, 2008

So Hillary Clinton somehow managed to win New Hampshire, shocking everyone. The media has thus done a 180 spin, and switched its narrative from \"Can Hillary possibly recover\" to \"the race is closer than ever!\"

It\'s interesting to note how increasingly different the bases of support seem to be between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, however. Hillary is very popular with baby boomers and women, who seem to be very receptive to her \"the 90\'s were great, let\'s go back to that\" message. Whereas Mr. Obama overwhelmingly wins the under 30 vote, presumably because he keeps promising to \"change everything,\" which is the sort of rhetoric young liberals really like.

I rarely hear Obama talk about what his changes will be so until he does it just seems he's telling people what they want to hear, which is to be expected from a politician, but when asked about the turmoil in Pakistan and assassination of Bhutto he glazed over the question and attacked Clinton, thoroughly using the word 'change', which seemed very immature in my opinion and makes it hard for me to believe he's sincere about his "changes". Hopefully the youth voters will wait to see what his changes actually are before voting for him.

Change is one of the words being used a lot in this election. Dave Barry says that "It seems that everyone is for Change, just not the change that the others are offering."

Another interesting word is Surge.

On a side note, is it intentional that Hillary is in a getup that looks rather like the old communist Chinese outfits, or just something that happened subconciously?

Clearly I'm too old and lame to be with the with-it PS3 crowd, since I thought that iPhone was a Lite Brite at first.

Man, I remember Lite Brites.

I have a 386 25 MHz computer and a working original NES. I remember Fraggle Rock and Doug. Does that make me old, too?

Re: Obama, I prefer him as the Democratic candidate both as an exception to the "devil you know" rule and because I sincerely believe he'll compromise with Republicans in the Legislature more than Hillary will. In other words, I support him because he's bad for the left.

I have a working NES, played with lite-brites as a kid, had Dragonball Z mangas (*shivers and pukes*), clearly remember Kosovo, had two etch-a-sketches and remember the days when computers had a "turbo" button.

I'm 17... so guys, it's official, you are not old. :P

I'm 24, and the NES I've had this whole time wasn't working, but then I got a new 72-pin connector and fixed it up, and it is now working once more. I've played through many a game on my newly-restored hobby, including Dragon Warrior IV and Crystalis, which I only acquired on eBay after I got back into this whole thing.

I'll admit I got rid of my NES when I got a wii. Managed to rebuy all of my games on virtual console.

But point in case I really do like Obama. His lack of experience makes me cautious but that never held back Lincion and in a way not being exposed to a bunch of lobists and the sometimes fusterating wars in congress and the house would have it's upsides.

I don't expect the "change" line to take hold for long before he reverts to getting it done the old fashioned way but he could generally do a really good job simply becuase he would be coming from a diffrent background then most presidents.

Point in case though it seems if you pick Clinton or Obama the democrats have this next election in the bag. Which honestly after watching the republican lineup of candidates I think I can live with.

Heh.
One of my friends had a Commodore 64, and I'm old enough to remember thinking it was cool. I'm 28.
I vaguely remember Lite Brites, I had an NES, which I then shelved in favor of a Genesis. I also remember the last decade of the Cold War.
While kids nowadays might overhear talk of dirty bombs or suitcase nukes wiping out cities, I remember seeing fallout shelters on TV and people discussing what to do if the nuclear holocaust comes.
