I'm really into club soda....love that stuff but after a work out, only pure H2O will do.

Purified Canadian lake water is even better than Coke.

There's no sugar in it.
Sugar content is a positive trait. Incidentally, sodas in the USA tend to contain high fructose corn syrup rather than cane sugar but sodas in Mexico tend to contain cane sugar. Which is more common in Canada?

The Coke/Pepsi debate reminds me of a Bloom County comic in which the characters debate which soda is better based on the political ramifications of the corporations' activities. In the end, they declare that both taste like "malted battery acid" (so true!) and decide to drink milk instead.

We use the high fructose corn syrup too.
I'm guessing the difference is, the US and Canada grow a lot of corn but very little sugar cane.

And Bloom County is/was friggin brilliant. Best comic strip ever!

Giving up soda entirely (along with basically every drink ever except water, just water, and sometimes lemonade when dining out with my family on birthdays or special occasions like that) is one of the tricks that helped me drop thirty pounds.

Nah... when it comes to thirst, nothing beats water.

I disagree. A BC mountain stream is he best water. Specially when you've been hiking up to it for a few hours.

Oh, and also, I should point out that Harper's biggest problem in this strip actually appears to be that he's trusting Montgomery Burns to do his PR/image stuff.

I'm sure that's true.

Indisputable! Some samples for the uninitiated. There are very few comics on that top tier: Calvin & Hobbes, The Far Side, Peanuts, Filibuster... ;)

I drink milk, soda, and juice regularly. If I lost 30 lbs, I'd be as unhealthily underweight as I was in high school (6' and 110 lbs, body mass index of 15 where 18.5-25 is normal). I'm only barely up to the "normal" range as it is (BMI=19). It's a little alienating.

On the other hand, I've given precisely that advice to my wife when she wishes out loud that she could lose a couple pounds. I think of drinking mostly water as sound advice to which I am excepted.

Well, now I'm on the edge of being underweight, but I wasn't before. 6'2" and I went from 180 to 150.

I'd also recommend people to mostly give up sodas because they are fairly bad for your teeth. Because this in large part due to their acidity, drinking sodas sweetened with things like aspartame won't help.
