Filibuster Cartoon
Title: Harry Goes to War (click to view)
Date: February 28, 2007

The British Prince Harry is all set to be deployed to Iraq to fight- an event which is more or less occurring on his explicit orders. Harry has been in the army for quite some time now, and he recently quipped \"There\'s no way I\'m going to put myself through Sandhurst and then sit on my arse back home while my boys are out fighting for their country.

The timing is a bit ironic, as Tony Blair has recently been saying that he intends to reduce the British troop presence in Iraq by at least 1,600 in the next couple of months, withdrawing the superfluous and only keeping the most vital.

And one wonders in which category Prince Harry falls.

Eh, good for him, though I think we can all assume that he won't be doing any active combat duty.

The boys still need administrators, though.

Smart guy, he looks good to the people and his troops. Loyalty shows through. But I do agree he probably wont see any action.

He has stated he does not want to be treated any different than the rest of his comrads. And by the sounds of it, he's fully prepared to go. Good for him.

The first book was fantastic. The second was so-so I thought, and I'm waiting for the third one.

Didn't Prince Andrew fly Sea Kings during the Falklands War too?

Yes! I think he served for 22 years.

I'm kind of hoping he gets shot. That would teach him to go slumming.

Ridiculous post. Not many things get to me, but that my dear, infuriates me.

*shrug*

Even if the UK pulls out, there's their deployments in Afghanistan and elsewhere. If he sticks with the service like Andrew, that's 22 years where he might see action.

If he's willing to serve on the front line, all the power to him. Better than being treated "special" and being held back just on account of his birthright...

My disdain for the royal family angers you? Explain why.

How on earth you believe that getting shot teaches one that slumming is bad would be a start. If anything, wouldn't it teach him that going to military college and sticking with his fellow soldiers was a bad idea, and he should have stuck with the slumming?
