Like telling the voters that a coalition wasn't in the works?

The Liberal Party of Canada and the New Democratic Party of Canada will adhere to this agreement until June 30, 2011 unless renewed.

The Bloc Québécois will adhere to this agreement until June 30, 2010 unless renewed.

It's all here:

Man, you're starting to sound like a pathetic looney leftist - the type that just aren't happy unless they're unhappy. You'd've been bitching from sunup to sundown if the coalition had taken over, and now you're bitching because Iggy's not going forward with it.

I guess Iggy's support of the budget add to Dion's record of abstentions?
That puts the number of Liberal abstentions up to 44.

Nah, this is #1 on a new counter - liberal bills tabled by the Conservatives to save their own sorry skin.

What's next? Is that AVRO Arrow project worth resurecting?

Smart on iggy's part. If he finds at any time that he's got public support he can simply say one of the conservatives reports wasn't good enough and bring down the government while making it look like the conservatives fault. It also gives him a lot of power in the house to play hardball more then most liberals could at this point.

Do you think Iggy had any other choice? You saw how the other two babies have acted, with Layton calling for blood. The coalition wouldn't have stayed together anyway and it would have resulted in an election that the liberals cannot afford.

Yes, Iggy could have thrown in some content amendments that would have been backed by Bloc and NDP such as the one related to EI eligibility. Not enough to cause a defeat of the budget but sufficient to establish his leadership and some degree of co-operation from Gilles and Jack. That would have been a smart move because it would make it appear that the coalition is still together, whether it is or not.

Not really. This contradiction has not been noted. Iggy has acted like the he did not support the Coalition in the first place and that it is dead anyway. If that is the case, HOW is Iggy going to defeat the government if he does not like a quarterly report????

Iggy's not really in any position to capitalize on these budget votes anyways.
He burned his coalition partners and the party is too broke to fight an election.
All he can do is bitch and abstain at every confidence vote.

Something we've all seen before.

yep. He bitch about Iggy supporting it and would have freaked out had Iggy voted it down. He bitched that the coalition was treasonous (unless it was Harper's) yet when Iggy comes along and does exactly what he wanted he bitched about that. He bitched about the Liberals and NDP running possible deficits yet crows with delight over a 34 billion dollar deficit as proof Harper is responding to the people. The truth is Harper dithered about the economy while everybody was telling him what was coming, then made statements that he would not run a deficit (despite 08 already being a deficit year), which he pulled off a massive flip-flop once he saw which way the winds were blowing.

They just want to bitch no matter what the Libs do and blame them for everything.

Not to sound like I think I know better because I'm from the United States, but this is why I enjoy having regularly scheduled elections. Every two years, we have an election. If we like them, they stay for two more years. If they piss us off, we kick them out.

Your assuming that the NDP or the Bloc wouldn't still take the chance to go to an election. It doesn't matter what the situation is those two parties will bring down any conservative government in a heartbeat given the option.

Careful, carolinian. Last time I said that, it spawned about four pages of bitching from Donny_Brasco and Biblesmasher.

If we stay with minority governments, we may be headed in that direction.
