I've been gone from here for awhile and I finally found this comic.

When I was going to college I worked at the Wal-Mart gun counter and quickly earned a reputation as the "gun guy". (I still am one. 8) ) Plenty of Canadians came down to buy ammo and would openly admit to owning unregistered guns. From what I was told, the registry is largely unenforced because the police know it's useless and siphons resources from where they might be better used. Thus nobody is arrested over it unless they are committing some other crime.

Getting rid of it would be good for all of Canada, not just the gun owners, for the reasons listed above.

Of course most of the Canadians you spoke to would be anti-registry. They took the trouble to buy from your place rather than go someplace closer and register.

However, I do agree that gun registry is little more than a polite formality when it comes to otherwise-law-abiding gun owners who do not use their firearms regularly.

Just a late follow-up since the registry is staying for now and everything.

I was stating before that I had lost some sympathy for anti-registry people- esp. on the whole "turning us into criminals because we like to duck hunt" arguement.

Now I have absolutely zero sympathy and I am willing to call it what it is- whining. I recently purchased my first gun and the registering was done (by the storeowner) over the internet in less then 2 minutes at no cost. The non-restricted licencing process takes 1-2 months and 180 dollars from start to finish but nobody is talking about getting rid of that.

And I carry my PAL and registration papers with me when I take my gun out- the same as would with your car (drivers licence, registration, insurance).

I think most of the opponents are bitter old men whom the world has past by.
