<strong>Filibuster Cartoon</strong> <strong>Title: </strong> <a href="http://www.filibustercartoons.com/archive.php?id=20061020" target="_blank">O Somalia</a> (click to view) <strong>Date: </strong> October 20, 2006
Toronto has a large community of Somalian immigrants. In the wake of the ongoing Somalian revolution launched by the hard-line Islamic Courts Union, a number of these immigrants have now returned to Africa to fight alongside the Islamists. According to the National Post, a Somali-Canadian named Ali Afrah is now one of the leading figures in the revolution, holding a \"key\" position in the Courts Union hierarchy.

Well, at least we'll know that everyone cheerleading this guy is kookoo. Nice to have a good test for that. I can't wait for the Chomsky salute.

Well, just looking at the comic itself, the art is gorgeous! And I snorted at how serious everything looked, and then the somalian decked out in the canada-gear. It's subtle with the mood, and it's great!

I know its genius, I just sniggered at the "eh?" beanie hat
But yes, why should we criticise that man?! For he is only going back home to help complete one of the greatest UN peacekeeping triumphs to rank amongst those of say Bosnia or Rawanda or..the Lebannon!

He's sure trying to become one now that a US prison cell beckons.

This reminds me of the two men from California who ran off and joined the Taliban/al-Qaeda--only difference being that they want to kill all of us, while the Somalian-Canadian guy is content to kill infidels in his own country.

J.J., your link is off on the main page. It redirects to the Chavez thread.
Also, your comic reminded me of a picture I saw in the Economist, which may have been your inspiration for it:
Shame all jihadists can't be this goofy.

That one guy, Adam Gadahn, looks frighteningly similar to me.

I remember watching this documentary on Frontline about a family of militant Pakistanis who emigrated to Canada and returned to fight with the Taliban after 9/11. There was this surreal moment where the director interviewed the mother and daughter of the family who were completely hidden behind veils. The daughter spoke with a flawless North American accent and she was defending the Sept. 11 attacks while talking in a voice that could have come from a prom queen.
But whatever, multiculturalism right?

It wasn't that specific photo, but it was clearly one of the same dudes, yes!

I don't support Sharia law (or any religious law for that manner) as the judicial code of a nation, but it seems to me like this Somalia thing is like an old Cold War proxy battle. The US and Ethiopia are supporting an unpopular "transitional" government while the people are creating organic courts that just happen to be associate with a movement the US is fighting somewhere else. It saddens me that the US would support the conditions of anarchy rather that trying to work with the Islamic Courts to finally improve the situation in Somalia. I mean, in all honesty, are Islamic Courts, which seems to have the support of the Somali people, really worse than over a decade of anarchy?
