A poll said to be "coming out Monday" claims that Republicans that admit they've smoked marijuana prefer Sarah Palin to any other Republican presidential candidate. Among marijuana non-smokers, Palin comes in fourth of five (ahead of Ron Paul).

Will this be the best evidence yet that marijuana has a detrimental effect on cognitive function?

That or that Republicans that say they don't favor Sarah Palin are filthy liars.

If you have spent any amount of time in California in the past decade, you have smoked pot, no exceptions.

Even if that's true, it doesn't affect a nation-wide poll. On a personal note, I haven't spent any time in California in about a decade.

Michael Scherer of Time Magazine wrote:
The sample of Republicans who had smoked pot was 83, or 21 percent of all the Republicans polled, which resulted in a 10.7 percent margin of error
Apparently, these numbers don't really mean much of anything.

Perhaps if one smoked that she might make more sense.

Maybe if you smoke pot, you can actually understand what she says,

Things about Republicans are just Ironic. As an old Republican myself. We preached that drugs are bad and gays are confused or have mental issues.

Now we have a lot of pot smoking Republicans and a growing number of Republicans who are coming out of the closet.

This isn't a fair study because the other candidates are all male. When they get high, they start thinking with their dicks and, of course, prefer Palin to Beck, or whomever. I'd be curious to hear the numbers on homosexual Republican potheads. I'm sure they prefer Romney or Paul.

You might be able to understand what she says, but if you start agreeing with her you may need to cut down on the grass.

What about the anti-war homosexual Republican potheads with pet unicorns demographic?

Anti-war Republicans are rarer than unicorns, so I doubt they have a measureable demographic.

You have to be careful with the pot legalization crowd--they are not so easily grouped into the "pothead" stereotype. I've met more than a few pot-smoking libertarians in my day--mostly the pot smokers that also enjoyed owning guns.

Indeed it was the issue of marijuana that originally sparked in me the question as to what the limits of government authority should be, when I was 15 or so.

And that was years ago--before you had to whip out your junk in front of a complete stranger and wee in a jar to make sure you didn't blow a doobie on the weekend!
