Couldnt agree more JJ. I've done my fair share of booze soaked cheering for this country and once upon a time I even considered myself a patriot who would die for his country. Not so much anymore- nationalism is sickening- now the Olympics is relatively harmless venue for nationalist feelings but when hockey induced flag waving starts overlapping into support for government sponsored murder then no good can come of it.[/quote)
How sad for you. Maybe you should travel a bit and learn exactly
how many blessing Canada gives you?
I grew up outside of Canada and I've touched most of the continents and visited over half of the American States. Canada is home for now but its not something to get excited about. I'll probably end up emigrating- Not really much more to say about that.
I should have, however, read the Iggy article- its worse then I thought:
"We Canadians are immensely proud of our country, but we try to be soft-spoken about it, so we aren’t looking for the Vancouver Games to be a grandiose exercise in self-promotion."
The last five words are so divorced from reality one wonders if the leader of the Liberal Party reads anything other then internal policy documents. Considering that over 6 billion dollars were spent on these games which is well over 4 billion dollars more then the most recent American winter games.
"The Olympics have done their part in replacing war with sport as the way nations earn respect."
This is coming from a man who wholeheartedly supported the bloodbath in Iraq and continues to support war and occupation in Afghanistan. Iggy cluelessness is amplified by the fact that during the opening ceremonies Canadian soldiers were involved in the largest offensive yet of the decade old war in Afghanistan.
It's almost to emigrate right now-
