Isn't China's economy already hurting from this or am I just high?

Everyone's is. I know many parts of Europe are getting hit especially bad. Canada's in this little bubble, our economy was on the verge of burnout just a year ago. Our GDP data for June was just released, and it showed very high growth as recent as then. We don't feel the recession yet. Nine months ago, companies weren't advertising "buy our product" they were advertising "work for us".

Things may appear to be economically normal at the moment, but that is simply because we had higher to fall from. People haven't noticed housing prices dropping significantly, as they fell from extremely high to relatively normal.

The last thing Harper wants to do is acknowledge that, since he has become Prime Minister, the economy has crumbled, even though the core problem is not even remotely his fault.

Dion has predictably taken the "things were good under the liberals, now, not so good".

In both cases, perhaps good politics during an election, but a far cry from the leadership shown to our south.

Hey everyone,

The new site's integration with the CKA forums is, well, new. And it seems we've already hit a bug. Think we've ironed it out now, but sorry for the kinda useless entry. Here's what the above post should look like:

As much as many Canadians would like to believe otherwise, Canada cannot really be a neutral observer to the worsening economic situation in the United States. Our economies are more interlinked than any other two countries on Earth, with nearly 90% of Canadian exports going to the US and many of our largest firms being headquartered there, as well.

Harper keeps saying that “the fundamentals of the Canadian economy are strong,” I guess in an effort to distance himself from the economic leadership of the United States. But few of our political leaders have yet spoken seriously about the very real, inescapable consequences that the US crisis will inevitably have on this country. Right now, Dion and Harper are pretending like negative things will only happen if the other guy is elected, which I find quite a strong contrast with the US race, in which Obama and McCain have both, at various times, spoken frankly that an economic downturn is more or less inescapable, regardless of which party takes office in 2009.

Once again, sorry for the screw up!

Johnny!
