We in the satire industry sure slag the Nobel peace prize a lot. It\'s kind of becoming a bit of a tired cliché. But then again, it\'s an award that is very easy to slag in the first place.

I\'m not saying Al Gore\'s win is necessarily bad per se... a lot worse people than him have won it. A lot of better people too, though.
I'm just a tad confused as to why Gore won the Peace prize, of all things. Does global warming have that much to do with keeping the peace?

“Pulling the wool over your eyes” is something I’d agree with. Peace, nope.

The award is now basically just a genaric "excellence in political activism" thing now.

sounds about right.
Frankly I would nominate Bush for it at this point. It's become that much of a "heart in the right place" award. No matter what the recipient's mind is really on.

Al Gore is just profiting off of global warming. He dosen't practise what he preaches.
Check out this urban legend link comparing his house to George Bush's.
Scape: If you find the Fox & Friends commentary amusing, you'll love the fact that Rush Limbaugh was "nominated" for the Nobel by another conservative talk radio host.

Wouldn't surprise. So what did Rush do for: "doing the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses"?

I didn't really pay attention. The nominator, Mark Levin, irritates me too much for me to pay much attention. (He's like talk radio's sasquatch2.) Realistically, it was a publicity stunt to demonstrate 1) how silly it was to give a peace prize for something unrelated to peace and conflict (such as Gore's global warming advocacy and, I presume, Rush's talk radio record), and 2) the ambiguous standards and procedures for nominating someone for a Nobel Peace Prize.
I think Rush and Gore both did equal amounts to promote world peace, that amount being "none".

Literally anyone can be nominated by... almost anyone. I've probably been a nominee once or twice,
Actually, why has Bono not gotten one yet?

What would Bono do with the award? He really wouldn't need it, and it might actually hamper is abilities to get things done. He uses his image as a way to get things done. The Nobel Prize would make him seem like part of the establishment.
Now that I think about it, Has Bill Gates won an award for his work? Not Microsoft, the money he uses to explore ideas for answers in Africa. Some of them don't work out, but he keeps trying new stuff.
I realize that maybe Sweden doesn't recognize the social workers of India who tirelessely work for Women's rights.
What about the different organizations that work with refugees? I know plenty of these people that deserve such an honor.

Not an urban legend according to your link because it has been proven as TRUE.
George Bush is greener than Al Gore.

Actually, they did. They gave a Nobel Prize to the fellow who runs the microbank that mostly benefits women in India.

I think that Mr. Gore and the IPCC have undertaken a huge humanitarian effort, in the face of scorn and ridicule, to bring the issue of climate change to people all over the world and clearly deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. He's doing something good for the planet and good for our children, and our children's children.
