http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-14665113Ali Farzat, a long time political cartoonist in Syria, is recovering in the hospital. It seems that he was pulled from his car and beaten by security forces.
Farzat's work historically has focused on generalized charicatures of issues instead of individual leaders. However, he has changed this stance during the Syrian uprisings and has been depicting Assad himself, in none-too glamorous situations.
The obvious inference here is that Assad's government has grown sick of any dissent, whether or not there is a physical protest behind it. This certainly hits home on this forum, where we all seem to enjoy the idea of furthering political discourse through the medium of comics. Hopefully Mr. Farzat finds the courage to continue his work.
