Yes, and like Quebec, Scotland sucks money out of the English taxpayers pocket.

That's not entirely true. If you ascribe the domestic oil industry to Scotland, they're a net contributor, economically, to the UK.

The domestic oil industry is British though, not just Scottish.

My bad, almost the same.
Majority of it is the same only a few minor differences such as, as you said the coalition.
But it cannot be denied that their are largely similarities between England and Canada.

The big difference with Canada vs UK is that a large chunk of votes in the second largest province go to a party that only has candidates in that province and it’s raison d'être is to break up Canada.

Not true. Scotland is the U.K.'s version of our Quebec. Scotland runs the SNP (Scottish Nationalist Party) which does win seats in the parliamentary elections there in the U.K. (although they don't win as much seats as compared to the BQ in Quebec).

Scotland is very autonmous.

Comparing Scotland and Quebec isn't something I can go with.
Quebec and the Welsh is more like it.
Scotland has always, well been Scotland. The Welsh are what’s left of the indigenous Britons. They speak a different language (very different!) and had a rather active and sometimes violent campaign for supremacy of the Welsh language over English. They were successful. They are very sensitive about their culture and see attacks on Welsh , Wales and leeks in every corner.

It was an act of union that joined Scotland to the rest of the UK. No Wolfe Vs Montcalm.

They have always been a very distinct society but it's not the same otherwise.
Further devolution would be a good idea.

At the worst Scotland would get a similar political link to England, NI and Wales as the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man et al have.

Independent except in defence and foreign affairs.

Something like that would probably work out well for all involved.
The English are as sick of the Scottish as they are sick of them.
Time for a divorce but we can share responsibility on certain things and the military truly benefits from the large Scottish influence. The Jocks are also very involved politically in the Union and it’s response to the EU, UN, NATO etc to everybody’s advantage.

I think the English and Scots can co-operate on many things but we are better doing our own thing on others. This relationship has evolved since Roman times. It's more complex than the Quebec vs Canada thing.

I know...but all the oil and gas is in Scotland. That's the history of the English-Scottish economic relationship: When the English needed Scottish wool, Scotland good, when American cotton replaced wool in the English textile industry "Fuck off, Scotland". When the English needed Scottish coal, Scotland good, when the coal ran out "Fuck off, Scotland". When the English need Scottish natural gas, Scotland good.

The Union has run it's course.

It had really after WW2. I’m no dumb Sassenach. Don't forget my me Dad was a Piper in the Scots Grey's.
I spent every summer at Butlin's in Ayr, plus numerous pilgrimages to Edinburgh Castle. I get were the Jocks are coming from.

Some sort of union is inevitable, it just won’t be the UK as it is now and it’s time for change.
