Filibuster CartoonTitle: The Dauphin's tutor (click to view) Date: August 26, 2008 Barack Obama now has a Dick Cheney of his very own in the form of Senator Joseph Biden, who he picked as his official vice-presidential running mate this weekend.
Senator Biden is a safe and fairly uncontroversial pick and there has been little serious criticism of him. His only potential negative is how much he contrasts with Obama. Biden has served in the Senate for three decades and is currently the chairman of the foreign relations committee. On paper, at least, he is a great deal more qualified to be president than Obama, which makes one wonder what kind of Bush-Cheney dynamic the two will have if they actually do get elected.

Uhhh...this hardly seems like the Bush-Cheney dynamic at all. Someone's trying desperately to push a parallel.

Well, I think JJ's reasoning is that's another pairing of a naive newcomer with a seasoned insider. I don't know if this automatically warrants a comparison, but it's an interesting one, nonetheless.
I worry about Obama choosing an insider as his running mate, though. I've read that Dean getting an endorsement from several Democratic big wigs started the beginning of the end for him. Biden seems a bit of a mavrick, though, so I'm probably wrong in that comparison.
And am I the only one incredibly sick of the 'IS IT OK TO MEET UNCONDITIONALLY WITH ANTI-AMERICAN FOREIGN LEADERS?' ad. I see that damn thing everywhere, and it's been around since, like, June.

I understand his "reasoning" but i don't find persuasive and unless it's something amateurish like, "completing the candidate's electoral holes with a running mate's plugs" then it's a bad comparison

Did anyone else notice how similar the drawings of Bush and Obama are?
-Tiny eyes dwarfed by eyebrows -Naive smiles -Disproportionately large ears

Republicans generally don't believe that Cheney is or could be running things from behind the scenes. Similarly, Democrats generally don't see Biden as a back-seat driver for the Obama ticket. Their parties' selective blindness actually provides more parallel for JJ to draw from.
I haven't seen almost any political ads unless I've gone to look for them online. Probably because I don't watch TV and I don't live in a battleground state.

Psudo, you're lucky. I live in NH and every other ad is a political ad of some kind. I switch to cable news and I get even more. Its horrific. I'm very intrested in politics and the news but this has been going on since January and I'm about ready to strangle someone. On another note: I think at least with Bush he had run an Oil business, as dubious as that is, and a state government. Obama hasn't run anything other then a few campaigns. Even the a lot of the democrats in the primaries pointed this out. They are only falling in line now in fear of being ostracized and kicked out of the party. I feel that Obama chose Biden for the same reason Bush chose Cheney, they "rounded out" the ticket in hopes of attracting more votes in lue of their limited experiences. And who the hell decided Dick Cheney should open up the RNC? Were they on something?

Moving is certainly not the answer, but avoiding television is a great way to also avoid the political attack ads that are driving you crazy. Every television news show also has a website that, with a good ad-blocker for your browser, also won't have any political ads.
If it bothers you that much, there's something you can do about it.

I get JJ's argument, but find it a bit specious. Yeah, Obama and Bush both have/had VP's with more experience. But whereas Obama is well-spoken and comes across as fairly intelligent, W. comes across very much the opposite.
I'd much rather have an intelligent president without much experience, than a dumbass without much experience. I don't really think there's much of a comparison at all.

Normaly the ads don't bother me but when all you see on TV is attack ads one after another it starts to drive you mad. I could care less about banner ads and the like, its just the TV stuff. If i'm watching Food Network I really don't need to see political ads!
