Even if the federal government were miraculously abolished, there are quite a few US states with enough "national" pride in their own state to exist as independent nations. Hawaii, Texas, Virginia, and Utah ("Deseret") come to mind. I could see New York City declaring itself a city-state, too.

Canada can barely keep its own provinces "under Canadian influence," I doubt we could handle running 15 new ones (who would outnumber us, population wise, incidentally. I don't know how we somehow wind up as the ones on top).
