Hey, J.J., neat cartoon, but the opinion section...
I've noticed in your guides, in just about everything else you talk about, you ascribe any motivation of pan-Canadian feeling to anti-Americanism. I guess if you convolute everything to fit that thesis, it could somewhat work, even if it is for trivial things such as backpack flags.
But seriously, how is it anti-American, for me, usually a Montréal fan, or other Canadians to go for Ottawa? I have nothing against the Anaheim Ducks for being American. In fact, I have a decent respect for their stars, and they're a hardworking, excellent team. It's just that, shock, I want a Canadian trophy in a Canadian game to go to a Canadian team for the first time in over 10 years. Would it be anti-Italian for some English persons to cheer for Liverpool in the Liverpool-AC Milan Champion's league final this week?
It's not even true that there is an automatic bandwagon against American teams. Look at the Calgary-Tampa Bay final: Most of PEI was going for T-Bay, because of one of their local stars on the team. Edmonton fans wanted their hated rivals to lose (I'm sure this was reciprocated last year when Edmonton was in the finals). Even during the season, when all teams have a chance, my region is about 1/3 Boston Bruins fans. As with most hockey fans, with 30 teams in a league, the chances are small our teams go far in the playoffs...it's fun to cheer for another team, and Ottawa is closer to our hears than Anaheim, California is.
Your obsession with this supposed "Canadian obsession" of anti-Americanism is, no offense intended, a bit paranoid, and this time just ridiculous.

No kidding. Personally I'm cheering for the Sens because I'm still pissed at Pronger and hope he never gets his name on the Cup.

"Anti-American" is an accusation that gets thrown around a lot. Usually it's a sign of desperation.

When I take into consideration the kind of people who call me anti-American, it doesn't bother me in the least.
Now carry on, lad, cheering for your Ducks!

Yeah, I'm torn on this Cup.
On one hand I want Ottawa to bring the Cup back to Canada. A nice byproduct is that Pronger wouldn't get one either...
On the other, I've been a fan of Selanne since BEFORE he came to the NHL (and even more as a Jet) and I'd like to see him get a ring.
It's a toss up, but either way, I'll be happy. Still, I'll be cheering for Ottawa, if only because they're my favourite Canadian team (since the Jets moved).

Eh, it's just the usual thing about "hometown heroes". Any sports team in any given contest will be supported by those people most geographically related to it. If there is no Toronto team in the playoffs, people naturally default to Canadian loyalty. If there is no Canadian team in the contest, Canadians have little or no interest.
The same is true of Americans. And England. And Brazil. Etc.

It's actually a bad cup for Oilers fans...having to choose between Pronger and Comrie.

I love that show. I have the first two seasons on DVD. I'm looking forward to buying season 3 sometime this summer.
I also check it against this page written by a medical doctor about how accurate the medical procedure and science are.
