I know this sounds spammy, but it's not an ad or anything else.

I have been trying to get Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri to work on my Win 7 laptop and all that happened was I was pulling out my hair in frustration - and given that I don't have much to begin with, it had to stop!

Instead of downloading patches and tweaking files to try and run awesome old XP games like Total Annihilation or Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, I went over to Good Old Games (Google it yourself) and picked them up for a five bucks each.

Most of them are under 10 bucks and they don't need internet connections or monthly fees to play - it's just the like old days, pay a few bucks and play as much as you want, when you want.

Oh yeah it's a great site. They just got a bunch of old Lucasarts classics like TIE Fighter, X-Wing, and Sam and Max hit the Road. They also have System Shock 2 which is still fantastic and where I got my name from.

I run Vista 64 bit and play old games from around 2000 or so. I just changed the setting to run on the older Windows version. Think one ran on Windows 95.

I'd be happy if I could find the XP version of Spider Solitaire and Free Cell.

Thanks for the info. I've been looking to play Duke Nukem for years and like you couldn't be bothered with the hassle.

While perusing the site I couldn't remember and old game called Wasteland 2 and wondered why it was 59.95 when everything else was under 10 bucks. Turns out they consider 2014 old.

Who knew.
