An interesting article from the CBC yesterday.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2011/03/08/f-genetic-foods-bg.html

Are we doing the right thing by trying to "improve" and control our future food or are we just creating a bigger problem?

Selective breeding of plants and animals has been the way we 'genetically modified' foods up until recently. What's going with the genetic modifications we use now just speeds up the same process.

I'm not really worried that we're going to have mutant carrots running for the Presidency...although I'm sure I'd consider voting for one of them.

We've been controlling and improving our food since we invented agriculture and pastoralism. Wheat, as it currently exists would not survive in nature. Neither would cattle.

Controlling and improving our food can have unintended consequences, as can direct genetic modification. But mostly it seems worth the risk.

I'm also a fan of irradiating food especially in places where refrigeration is not generally available.

And no one praises his work.

That's because the leftist death cult would prefer that there were 1 billion fewer 'carbon footprints' in the world.

I like it when my GM corn screams in pain as I drop it into boiling water.
