I'm not that way at all, I had a gay co-worker and classmate, I treated them with the same respect everyone deserves. but the gay pride parades have a huge impact on how people view homosexuals, gays don't make the news a lot, so most of time we hear about them in the media is either when they are advocating gay rights (marriage, adoption...ect) or during the gay pride parade.
Someone who doesn't know any gays, never had the chance to realize that they are just like you and me, might interpret the guys in thongs dancing on a float a little weird. If they weren't known around the world for their flamboyant and sexual celebrations maybe people would see them for what they really are.

Yes. Both are being exploited. Some of the women use that noteriety as a springboard to a higher career or richer husband. Aside from the shock value, I'm not really sure how gays benefit from a display that just re-enforces the image I thought they wanted us to forget.
