Elon was working like a slave in your country, but did not have a pot to piss in because your governments (federal and provincial) were taking all of his money to give to pathetic losers like your niece's husband. He moves to the states, builds empires, and becomes the richest man in the world.
You're welcome to any and all of the 21st century robber barons. Sure they get rich, but they make sure to keep everyone else as poor as possible, by working most employees in lousy conditions with lousy pay.
The reason robber barons they don't come to Canada is because they are terrible people who want to get rich off the backs of other people, and Canada tries to make sure that isn't acceptable by providing a healthier society for citizens. Quite frankly, Canada is a better place without that mindset here.
And as for Elon Musk, he's hardly the self made man you make him out to be - his father was already wealthy and like Trump, used that wealth to leapfrog most of his contemporaries. Hell, I knew exactly how to get wealthy in the 1990s - I just lacked the $1 million start-up capital because unlike Elon, I wasn't born on third base. So instead I invested in myself (education) and now have a solid middle class lifestyle, which suits me just fine.

Hell no!
The country is practically empty and we've got lots of room. Sure, we get a few lazy types who want to sponge off the system, but most of the immigrants we get are hard-working, salt of the earth types who just want what everyone else wants - a better life for themselves and their family.
If getting even 50 deadbeats is the price Canada pays to get 950 great people, that's a price I will pay as you say, "every day of the week and twice on Sunday."
This isn't a knock on you or Americans, but this perfectly illustrates the cultural differences between Canadians and Americans.
We're willing to help each other, and in your country, it's dog eat dog and whoever survives is either left maimed or rises to the top and gets wealthy. Up here, we do our best to make sure as many people as possible have a decent life by making sure that basic rights like health, education and safety are evenly distributed wherever possible.
I'll take out system every single time over yours, even if I know it means I'll never get rich.
