The 2011/2012 Junior Hockey season is well underway in rinks all across our great nation.
From the smallest towns to our largest cities young men and woman
are suiting up for their respective Junior B, Junior A or Major Junior teams.
(Story on the woman later)

Please get out and support your local Junior hockey, They can always use more fan support.
It's great hockey to watch and a way better value for your hard earned money than the pros.

A few links for you to find your local teams and a couple from my neck of the woods...

As for woman playing Junior hockey.... The Lloydminster Bobcats have a young lady trying out for one of their goaltender spots. Emerence Maschmeyer is giving it her all to make the boys club. Her older brother Brock plays for the Ft Mac Oil Barons and they could be facing off against each other in league play on October 23 as the Bobcats travel to Ft. Mac.

Here is an interview with this young lady on the AJHL this week broadcast.... http://www.box.net/shared/hshliig6rxtr4dk2m5z2

Brian Curran, Head Coach & General Manager of the Bobcats had this to say about Emerance....
$1:
One recruit making the coaches take notice is 16-year-old goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer – the younger sister of former Bobcats defenceman Brock Maschmeyer, who was traded in the off-season to Fort McMurray. Maschmeyer has yet to allow a goal in about 60 minutes of action. If another big opportunity doesn't come knocking, expect to see Maschmeyer in Bobcats' colours some time in the future.

"She sold me. She's the real deal," said Curran. "If she plays midget AAA this year – which she should if she's not going to be here – she might be one of the top goaltenders in the boy's AAA league."

And the young goaltending prospect wants to play for the Bobcats, but admits there's some tough competition between the pipes.

"I've always wanted to play at this level and it's where I want to be," said Maschmeyer. "I think I've been playing well and I've been keeping up with the guys pretty good, so I'm really enjoying it."

Maschmeyer got the chance to play against her brother on Friday, and even stopped him in the shootout.

"It was exciting, and the best part was probably when I stopped him in the shootout," said Maschmeyer. "It was really different playing against my brother thought. I never expected that to happen."

Good luck to Emerance, hope she makes the team!!!!.....

In another rather lack luster performance, our Storm fall to a dismal 3-9-1 record to start the season.......

Same two teams face off again tonight. I sure hope the boys get their shit together and play a full 60 minutes for a change. This is shaping up to be a long season.....

The Storm played a pretty solid first period, shit the bed in the second and had an amazing third period against the league leading Spruce Grove Saints. It was a pretty rough affair also, both teams looking for some pay back from Wednesday night I think. After a wild and exciting comeback by the Storm, they were down 4-1 going into the third, the game went through a five minute 3 on 3 OT, then the shootout.
Final score..........

Here's hoping the effort the boys put into the third period and overtime will be what they bring to the ice all the time now.

Oy, another loss for the Storm last night.....

They did for the most part out play Sherwood Park, out shooting them 37-24, but just couldn't get the puck past the Crusader net minder.
