It's a pretty good day to be an Oil fan.
Although we will miss Eric Brewer and Mike York, the Oilers have gone out and made good on their promise to land some big fish -- by way of two all-star, elite-level hockey players -- Chris Pronger and Mike Peca.
Hopefully, Pronger can remain healthy and Peca can recapture his old fire playing in the single most passionate hockey market in the world.

Yes, it sucks a little bit more now to like the Leafs. The era of the NHL that allowed them that huge advantage is over.

HOWEVER, still a great hockey franchise, great hockey town... you can't diss it.

Which brings me to the York trade. I like Mike Peca, but I prefer Mike York. The York deal, however, was made with the intention of building the team aroud him and Comrie. When the Comrie debacle (which I could discuss at length if I wanted to) hit, that kind of limited York's days as an Oiler.
...Which is a shame. But who the fuck am I to complain? Pecca and Pronger!
...But now the Oil needs another centerman for sure -- and Stillman has signed with Carolina!!!

I think it's a pretty good day no matter what team you cheer for. Not only has Edmonton signed Pornger and Peca, Vancouver resigned Naslund, Calgary keeps Iggy and signed a few more free agents (Amonte and McCarty). Montreal also resigned Kovalev and signed Mathieu Dandenault.

Toronto can't really sign anyone this season because it is so close to the cap. They would have had to buy out a bunch of core players like the Red Wings and Flyers did to actually pick up some big names.

Still, it's been a very good day for pretty much every other Canadian team, except Ottawa.
