Shutout Miller!

Though they scored 5 times they didn't really dominate. Most of the game was rather sloppy for both teams. Other than Henriks goal, the goals were pretty bad.

Agree with you sandorski. The passing in the 1st was terrible but got better as the game went on. Good to see the win though and the SO for Miller.

All I'm gonna say is....we're number one!!.....with a game in hand over Montreal.
The team still needs a lot of work but they are getting better the farther into the season they get. Quite a difference the changes have made from last year.

Next game goes Sunday morning in Detroit.

For sure. I keep getting this feeling the wheels are going to fall off like last year, but the whole team just seems so much better. The one stat they showed regarding the Scoring of the Lines was most impressive. Just shows so much more Scoring depth, not just compared to last season, but for quite a few seasons.

Of course the wheels are going to fall off, they always do, usually in the most spectacular fashion! It's inevitable, it's expected, it's preordained, it's the Canucks!! At least once a year, usually in the last quarter of the season the team, for no explainable reason, will take a sudden massive nosedive. They rarely last more than a few days but do shake Hell out of the team no matter where in the standings they are and, more importantly, it scares the shit out of their fans!

Yep, for many years the Canucks were known as a one line team.....Sedin, Sedin and Kesler. They were never able to put together a viable second line, even though they definitely had all the talent needed. Just check the stats for ex-Canucks players now playing elsewhere in the league to get an idea of the talent the team once had available. We all know talent alone isn't everything when it comes to putting together three players and having them gel into a top notch scoring line. This season the coaching staff seems to have gotten it all together.....and it seems to be working!! I think it would be safe to say the Canucks now have one top notch scoring line along with a 2nd and even a 3rd line capable of putting points on the scoreboard. The team's nine top scoring players is basically composed of the Canucks' top three lines......as it should be. The biggest shock I think is the way Vrbata has slotted himself in with the Sedins, playing as well as, if not better in some aspects, Kesler. Add to that the number of new players in the lineup who are having an outstanding start to their season.

Vancouver at Detroit

Image

The Vancouver Canucks go in search of their fourth straight win today when they battle the Detroit Red Wings bright and early at the Joe Louis Arena. Puck drop is 11 am PT.

It seemed just about everybody expected the Canucks to dominate the Blue Jackets on Friday in the first game of their seven-game road trip and Vancouver certainly delivered. After holding a slim one-goal advantage heading into the final frame, thanks in large part to yet another stellar performance by netminder Ryan Miller, the Canucks finally blew the game wide open in the third period scoring four unanswered goals en route to a convincing 5-0 win. The pundits probably won't be predicting another blowout win today but they ought to figure the Canucks will have a good chance of snapping their two-game losing streak versus Detroit after dropping both games they played against them last season. Only one Canuck – Daniel Sedin – managed to score in the season series against the Red Wings.

The Red Wings may have an aging veteran core but they're a team that can still hurt you on the scoreboard. Detroit, riding a season-high three-game win streak after overcoming a 4-1 deficit on Friday to knock off New Jersey 5-4 in a shootout, are among the top scoring teams in the league and they've been enjoying an offence by committee with seven players having recorded five-or-more goals and nine players with double-digit point totals. It should make for an intriguing match-up, then, with Red Wings' high-powered offence going up against the stingy Miller, who is coming off back-to-back shutouts and has not allowed a goal in 152:05 of consecutive playing time. Jimmy Howard is expected to get the start for Detroit.
