Victory. String some together and the Playoffs might be a thing.

A good game with some good all around play.

Now we need to do the same to top teams instead of perpetual bottom dwellers like the Sabres.

Last night's game was a definite confidence builder for the Canucks who, in their 7 games prior to this, have a dismal record of 1-4-2, being shutout twice, out shot in 5 of the 7 games and held to under 20 shots in their last 3 games. Thanks to Vrbata's hat trick, Prust's first goal as a Canuck and a PP goal by Henrik Sedin the guys pulled out a 5-2 win over the Sabres, while still being out shot 34-31. While the PP was only good for 1 goal in 6 opportunities the PK was perfect, killing off all 3 of Buffalo power plays. Hopefully the Canucks can get some momentum from this win, as they close out this home stand on Wednesday when the NY Rangers and ex head coach Alain Vigneault come to town. Following that game the Canucks will have 3 much needed days off before starting another 6 game road trip in 10 days leading up to the Christmas break, which will end on Dec 26.

Vancouver vs New York Rangers

30

The Canucks look to close out their four-game home stand with a second straight win tonight when they host Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers.

Two nights ago, inspired by the presence of arguably the greatest line in team history – the West Coast Express, the Canucks broke out of their slump in a big way exploding for five goals to snap a five-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Sabres. They'll be looking for the same kind of inspiration tonight playing in the presence of the most successful coach in franchise history, Alain Vigneault, even though said coach will provide the opposition tonight. Coach V returns tonight with a Rangers club that has been struggling of late with just two wins in their last seven outings (2-4-1) despite earning a 4-1 victory on Sunday in their most recent game against Ottawa.

Vancouver did not skate yesterday so any potential line-up changes won't be known until the morning skate at the earliest. One player who definitely will not play tonight is rookie Jake Virtanen, who has missed the last four games with a hip injury and was assigned on a conditioning stint to Utica (AHL) yesterday. Considering the Canucks turned in one of their better performances in weeks on Monday night, don't expect too many tweaks to the line-up.

Virtanen assigned to Comets

Vancouver, BC – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has assigned forward Jake Virtanen to the Utica Comets on a conditioning assignment.

Virtanen, 19, has played 19 games, recording four points (1-3-4) and 15 penalty minutes in his rookie season with Vancouver. During the 2014.15 season, Virtanen appeared in 50 games with the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL, where he scored 52 points (21-31-52) and logged 82 penalty minutes. He played 14 playoff games (5-8-13) for the Hitmen last season before joining the Comets Calder Cup run and playing another 10 postseason games (0-1-1).

The Abbotsford, B.C. native has missed the past four games due to injury. Virtanen was selected sixth overall by the Canucks in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

You had me freaked there for a sec.

I was thinking WTF. Doesn't that mean he has to pass through waivers? He'll never make it. Somebody will claim him quick as that. WTF is going through Benning's brain now.

Then I saw the term "conditioning assignment" and went whew...

How long are they allowed to keep him down there on that, I wonder.

Such Conditioning Loan shall not extend for more than fourteen (14) consecutive days. The Commissioner may take whatever steps he deems necessary to investigate the circumstances under which a Player is Loaned on a Conditioning Loan. If the Commissioner has reason to believe or determines that the Club has used the Conditioning Loan to evade the Re-Entry Waivers, or otherwise Circumvent any provision of this Agreement, he may take such disciplinary action against the Club, as he deems appropriate. The Player shall continue, during the period of such Conditioning Loan, to receive the same Paragraph 1 NHL Salary, and be entitled to the same benefits, that he would have received had he continued to play with the Club.
