Well, I guess it's once again to start the Canucks thread since the 2015 Young Stars Classic in Penticton finished today. The preseason starts one week from today on Sept 21 when San Jose comes to town for 2 games.

Vancouver vs San Jose

Image

The road to the regular season begins in Kraft Hockeyville when the Canucks play their first of eight pre-season contests facing the San Jose Sharks at the Q Centre.

The last time we saw the Canucks, they were skating off the ice at the Saddledome in Calgary after a disappointing playoff loss to the Flames that put a bitter ending to what was an otherwise positive campaign that saw them reach the 100-point mark for the ninth time in team history. That success wasn't enough to stave off a roster overhaul in the off-season, however. The Canucks will introduce several new faces to the lineup in these next eight tune-up games including the likes of Brandon Sutter, Brandon Prust, and Matt Bartkowski.

Though the off-season began earlier than most wanted in Vancouver, fans were able to take solace in the run to the Calder Cup in the AHL by the Utica Comets this past spring. Many of the key players from the Comets' run including Jacob Markstrom, Brendan Gaunce, Hunter Shinkaruk, Sven Baertschi, and Frank Corrado figure to be heavily featured during this pre-season alongside some of last year's standout junior players such as Cole Cassels, Jared McCann, and Jake Virtanen, starting tonight in the first of back-to-back tilt against the Sharks.

Anyone else out there watching this game? I was wondering if I was the only one finding it difficult to watch because of the poor camera work, constant zooming in and out, jerky movements and always trying to keep the puck centered......

I just started watching awhile ago. Haven't noticed what you're talking about so far. I'll watch for it.

Pretty sad so far. No score. This Horvath line is looking dangerous since Jensen took over from Higgins. They've had opportunities.

I hope nobody scores. Have you seen 3 on 3 overtime yet? It's a hoot.

See what I mean? Back and forth up the ice. Cracknell wins it in overtime. [cheer]

I couldn't watch it. No cable and the bars don't carry it.

Are there any online streams that cost less than $200 for a whole season?

Well it's pre-season. The bars most likely were on football or baseball. But last night's game was on basic cable.

Hyack usually tells you what cable channels are covering the game, but if you want to know further in advance the Canucks homesite gives you details.

http://canucks.nhl.com/

It's only the obscure upper cable channels covering tonight's game. Although if you get Sportsnet 1, it seems to have all the preseason games.

You could Google "Canucks online stream" then fight your way through that mess looking for one that actually works without signing over your home and your first born boy child.

Myself I'll most likely have it playing in the background on the radio - here.

Vancouver vs San Jose

Image

The Canucks wrap up their back-to-back set with the San Jose Sharks tonight when they play in front of their home fans at Rogers Arena for the first time in the 2015 pre-season.

Last night's tilt between the Canucks and Sharks at the Q Centre in Colwood might not have been the most aesthetically pleasing contest but it ended on a high note. Newcomer and local boy Adam Cracknell netted the lone goal in overtime to lift Vancouver to a 1-0 win over a rather youthful San Jose squad. The Sharks should have a much different look tonight as many of their veterans are expected to be in the lineup while the Canucks will likely also counter with their top stars including the likes of netminder Ryan Miller, and along with the Daniel and Henrik Sedin, and Alex Burrows just to name a few.

What Canucks fans are most looking forward to, however, is the continued infusion of youth into the lineup. Tonight's tilt could mark the first pre-season game for the likes of Cole Cassels, Jared McCann and Jake Virtanen - three of most highly touted prospects in the Canucks' system and all of whom are coming off standout junior campaigns and had strong showings at the recent YoungStars Tournament in Penticton.

Puck drop at 7 pm PT – Live on Sportsnet ONE, TSN 1040, or online at tsn1040.ca.

Thank's Fiddle, but I do not own cable. Haven't since 2007. It's also eastern alberta, so even if the bars did have the right channels they wouldn't play it. Spent a lot of time listening to the radio last s eason, but this season I'd like to spoil myself and spend the $200 on an online full season video stream if the service is available.

Have you heard of this?

http://www.nhl.com/ice/eventhome.htm?lo ... nhlnetwork

I'm not even sure what it is. I heard about it at the board at the Canucks home site. I think it's online streaming of NHL games.

I wonder if it might be what you're looking for.

I see they have tonight's pre-season Vancouver game.

Something like that. But apparently I need to have a cable subscription so that they can figure out which games are in-market for me and which ones aren't.

I've seen 3 on 3 at junior hockey all-stars game. A blast to watch. Looking forward to it.

It seems we are going to be introduced into 3 on 3 whether we want to be or not......

.....to be honest with ya'll, I've had enough hockey already tonight.....

Next game will be on Friday from Calgary, followed Saturday again against the Flames but they will be playing in Vancouver.

Chris Higgins, Canucks winger, breaks right foot against Sharks

Image

Chris Higgins will not be in the Vancouver Canucks' lineup for the Oct. 7 season opener at Calgary after breaking his right foot on Monday night.

The 32-year-old left-winger will be re-evaluated in three weeks after he took a Brenden Dillon slapshot off the inside of the ankle in the second period a 1-0 NHL pre-season win over San Jose.

A 10-year NHL veteran, Higgins scored 12 goals and 36 points with a plus-8 rating last season.

His injury means rookie Jake Virtanen will probably receive a longer look in training camp.

Selected sixth overall in the 2014 NHL draft, Virtanen was scheduled to skate on a line with rookie centre Cole Cassels and veteran Alex Burrows in Tuesday's game against the visiting Sharks.
