N_Fiddledog N_Fiddledog:
That's right. They had that little spurt of wins at the end, didn't they? So I was off by 5 spots on the 'goals for' last year.

I just remembered how a few times last year the broadcasters were so pleased to tell us we were on the bottom of the league for goal scoring.

Still...moving up 16 places in a year. That's impressive too.

At the beginning of the season the broadcasters kept asking "Where are the Canucks going to find the points the Sedins were getting?" Those points were not only found, they were surpassed, it would seem.

Also isn't it impressive how much faster our team has gotten?

And next year the speedy skilled defenceman Quinton Hughes should join the big team along with Thatcher Demko who we hope will be the # 1 star goalie of the future. Our # 1 draft pick from 2016, defenceman Olli Juolevi might be ready too. Hopefully these sorts of things will help improve our shameful goals against stat.

Where are you finding last year's stats btw, Hyack? I was looking for them too.

NHL.com has stats from the formation of the league. That's what I use to compare stats

Shamefully, I admit to knowing that now after the link was posted twice - once by me.

Just wasn't up on how to work the gizmo. Figured it out now...but thanks.

Come to think of it...I found one the other day that reminded me of you.

Interesting right?

Enjoy 2019.

Not concerned, 53 mil is the cap hit, Limit will be 83 mil, 30 mil cap space, 19 of which will be spent on Mathews and Marner, that leaves 11 million.. 16 if we LTIR Horton's contract. Plenty of space.

Yeah, he might squeeze in under the cap with the projected rise in cap space.

But what will you do if your defence gets exposed as wanting in the playoffs again?

Will you have cap room to improve it?

Tell you what? We have lots of cap space. Kapanen is going to be a cap problem for you too. We'll take Kapanen off your hands if you throw in your 2019 first then we might be able to help you out with a talented cheapy defenceman in Edler or Tanev. But just because you're a fellow Canadian team and we're big hearted here in Vancouver though. :)

While a better deal than most of the trades I've heard (many are frothing at the mouth for Drew Doughty, these people have no concept of what we'd have to lose to get him...) I'd not offer a First for Tanev, I'd give a Second for his services.

As for the Defence, I suspect we'll make a large trade for a D and Forward. St. Louis is in free fall, maybe Parayko, if he could be had for cheap. We need grit, really. A guy like Simmonds or Kassian...

Have you no faith?

Get back into second place in the standings and your first pretty much is a second rounder.

Tampa Bay at Vancouver

37

Lightning (25-7-2) at Canucks (16-16-4)

The Tampa Bay Lightning and Vancouver Canucks will each look to extend point streaks when they play at Rogers Arena on Tuesday.

The NHL-leading Lightning are 8-0-1 in their past nine games after a 5-4 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday.

Vancouver has won consecutive games and has points in six straight (5-0-1) after going 1-10-2 in its previous 13.

Center Elias Pettersson will try to extend his point streak to eight games, which would tie Pavel Bure for the Canucks rookie record. Pettersson has 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in a seven-game run. Bure had 13 points (nine goals, four assists) from Feb. 17 to March 2, 1992.

Canucks forward Brock Boeser has scored a goal in three straight games and six goals in his past five. He has 12 points (eight goals, four assists) in his past nine.

Horvat has four points (two goals, two assists) in a three-game point streak.

Bad news.

$1:
The Vancouver Canucks announced today that Olli Juolevi has undergone successful knee surgery and is expected to make a full recovery for training camp.

After thorough evaluation, rest and conservative treatment, surgery was determined by Canucks medical staff, in consultation with specialists, as the best option for Juolevi's long-term health and career.

The surgery was successfully performed today with an estimated return to play timeline of six months.

The Canucks go down 5-2 to Tampa Bay, bringing their home stand record to 2-1-0. Tampa opened the scoring, followed by Motte scoring his 5th before Tampa scored again taking a 2-1 lead into the 2nd. The Lightning scored again in the 2nd increasing their lead to 3-1. Tanev scored in the 3rd, his 2nd, before Tampa scored two more, one an empty net goal. Vancouver outshot the Lightning 38-37 and held them to 0/4 on the PP with Vancouver going 0/6 while on their PPs. Vancouver's next game will be Thursday when they host the St Louis Blues.

St Louis at Vancouver

38

Blues (13-15-4) at Canucks (16-17-4)

The Vancouver Canucks will try to bounce back from their first regulation loss in seven games when they play the St. Louis Blues at Rogers Arena on Thursday.

Goalie Jacob Markstrom, who has a .937 save percentage during his five-game winning streak, will start for the Canucks after backing up Anders Nilsson in a 5-2 home loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. The loss ended a six-game point streak (5-0-1) for Vancouver that included a 6-1 win in St. Louis on Dec. 9

Vancouver center Elias Pettersson had his point streak end at seven games against Tampa Bay, one short of Pavel Bure's franchise rookie record set in 1991-92. He had five points against the Blues on Dec. 9 and has 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in his past eight games.

Stecher is out indefinitely after a high hit against Tampa Bay. Baertschi has been cleared for contact for the first time since he was injured on Oct. 24; however, he won't return until after the Christmas break.

Boeser has six points (three goals, three assists) in his past four games.

$1:
No suspension coming from NHL for Martel hit on Stecher

A woozy Troy Stecher left Rogers Arena with an apparent concussion Tuesday night following a controversial hit by Danick Martel, but the NHL’s department of player safety isn’t considering a suspension.

Stecher was hit by Martel of the Tampa Bay Lightning late in the second period as the Canucks’ defenceman was collecting the puck.

Martel came from a rear, blindside angle on Stecher. He caught the blue-liner’s shoulder and head in the hit, knocking Stecher to the ice. The Canuck had to be helped off the ice by his team’s medical staff.

On Wednesday, Canucks coach Travis Green confirmed Stecher had a concussion and was now following the return-to-play protocol.

These are the kinds of hits the NHL has talked about getting out of the game, but apparently in this case, it doesn’t fit the bill.
