There's a colorful recap here of last night's Utica Comets game:

https://canucksarmy.com/2019/02/02/canu ... ringfield/

I like how some of the types we need up here seem to be making their mark down there.

Jalen Chatfield is a right-shot D. They say he likes to clear the front of the net. Doesn't mind the greasy areas. Wouldn't mind one of those. Gudbranson is inconsistent. Can't be relied on.

I'd really like to see that Zack MacEwen kid get a look up here. He's this big, snarly, power forward who wasn't drafted but surprises at every level he moves up to. I keep wondering could he be Pettersson's McSorley/Semenko.

Then there's that little cluster of potential backup scorers - Jasek, Lind, Dahlen. They were looking like a bust at the beginning of the season but lately they've been coming on.

Virtanen opened the scoring for the Canucks with his 12th, followed by Boeser's 17th to give the Canucks a 2-0 lead going into the 2nd period. Roussel scored his 6th followed by Colorado's only goal and Motte's 7th to give Vancouver a 4-1 lead after two. Goldobin scored his 6th while on the PP to give the Canucks the 5-1 win over Colorado. The Avalanche outshot the Canucks 35-26 and were held scoreless on their 3 PPs while the Canucks went 1/2 on theirs. This 4 game road trip continues on Monday when the team visits Philadelphia.

Edler taken off on stretcher in Canucks game against Flyers

Alexander Edler was taken off the ice on a stretcher after the Vancouver Canucks defenseman went face-first onto the ice in the third period of a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Monday.

Edler was defending in the Canucks zone when it appeared his stick got caught in Flyers forward Jakub Voracek's skates, pulling Edler to the ice. He left the game with 10:22 remaining.

Vancouver coach Travis Green said Edler was taken for X-rays to check for possible facial fractures. He did not know how long Edler could be out.

"Any time a guy goes down you're worried about him," Green said.

Edler has 20 points (five goals, 15 points) in 38 games. The 32-year-old had four shots on goal in 19:34 against the Flyers.

"It's scary any time any player goes down like that," Canucks forward Brock Boeser said. "I didn't really see what happened. ... I don't know if he was knocked out at first, but to see a player not moving there at first, it's scary. We all send our prayers his way."

Hopefully it's not too serious but it looked pretty bad.

Will this end the talk of an Edler trade to a team looking to make a playoff run to the cup?

I just caught the last ten minutes of tonight's game. Our guy's looked good. Real good. Ben Hutton was filling in for Alex like a champ.

If Phillie's goaltender had just sneezed on one of those amazing stops he made on one our excellent shots and the referee didn't have a hair trigger whistle on that 'should've been a goal' we would have won.

Canucks defense in between the face-off circles and the goaltender is pretty impressive. Maintaining a tight formation, not getting flustered, and providing a lot of coverage preventing the puck from getting through.
