Try a local farmer's market. If not, buy some seeds and plant them in a pot on your apartment balcony/windowsill.

Fermented Korean veggie is rapidly making its way into the kitchens of gourmet cooks in Canada: black garlic. The expensive dark-hued cloves, which are said to have a jelly-like texture and taste deliciously tasty, have become a popular of some Canadian foodies, including at McEwan’s market in Toronto.

Start a renegade garden! Or see if there's a community garden somewhere in your area. There are also some food co-ops that will deliver a box of veggies to your door.

Or not.

Start with your backyard first.

Many of those co-ops are actually really excellent. Most you can put in 'orders' from small farmers for veggies and fresh meat, and they will deliver or let you pick up the order. Lots of little farmers get business, and you cut out the middle man.
