Come on people... energy shortage; are we all nuts?
Canada is the Saudi Arabia of uranium 238. We build the best Reactor: Candu, which is in its 3rd generation design phase.
All the tar sands need is a decent Government to give tax breaks to get reactors up and running. Tar sands could equate to clean oil.

We only have reactors(old) out east.
Reactors only generate about 15% of our electricity.
In France about 45% is generated by reactors.

We are all stuck in some childish notion of reactors=bombs.

Canada Wake-up... this is our time let us not see it all slip away.

If we want to stay here, Inuit population can learn us a lot; and if not, we are a population of immigrants, we can move.

John McCain (US REP platform) has just opted for 45 NEW nuclear plants.
I believe China planning construction 40 NEW nuclear plants.

Is Canada so lost by our political correctness that it is blinding us from the only REAL option.

Former Greenpeace activist favours nuclear energy for Alberta
Canwest News Service
Published: Monday, July 07, 2008

EDMONTON - Patrick Moore has spent the years since he broke ties with Greenpeace trying to correct what he calls one of the "biggest mistakes" of the early environmental movement of which he was an integral part - namely that all nuclear power is evil.

"If it hadn't been for us, the environmental movement of the '70s, there'd be a lot less coal-fired power plants in this world today and a lot more nuclear plants that were not polluting the air and not leaking greenhouse gas into the atmosphere," said Moore.

Moore is now an avid proponent of both nuclear and hydroelectric power, both of which he said Alberta should embrace as energy sources.

Moore was the keynote speaking Monday at a national symposium on rural issues hosted by the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties.

Moore said he has travelled to Peace River, Alta., and Whitecourt, Alta., a couple of times to deliver his message since a nuclear power plant was proposed for nearby Lac Cardinal, about 500 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.

Proponents of nuclear power have pushed the technology as a way to help power development of Alberta's vast oilsands with fewer greenhouse-gas emissions.

"If Alberta really wants to turn around its extremely high CO2 level, which is seven times higher than Quebec's," said Moore, "it's got to consider either building hydro dams in the north or building nuclear plants in order to stop the continued increase in fossil fuel consumption."

Yes, there should be a nuke power plant up there, but it won't be a panacea.

By needing to buy time with nuclear plants, Alberta seems a more harsh place to live.
