It isn't necessarily true that when you have had 1 PPD, you will get another.
They need help more than anything else. Pre-natal care is very important. Post-natal care might be even more important. Most women are totally normal, but some are not, and it is up to the mid-wife/pre-natal care giver/post-natal care giver to spot the abnormal ones.
A family doctor doesn't always see PPD's, women don't necessarily go to a family doctor with their complaints, because the doctor (AND their friends...) say "ahh, you'll get over it".
A PPD or PPP (Post Partum Psychosis) is not something women are proud of. It's seen as a "lack of strength", a "Jeeeeesh, you can't even handle a baby!". Or it is just shoved under the rug not taken seriously. Until something goes REALLY wrong.
