Yeah, too many people now. I'd imagine that I'll soon snap and go on a shooting rampage. I just don't think I can lower the population to a sustainable level all by myself though. Maybe we'll have to start a club, kinda like the Boy Scouts. We can give out merit badges for creative population control and everything.

Count me in and you don't have to worry about the badges....

part of the problem is that as the quality of life improves for more people, which is a good thing, they are going to start wanting more things, putting an even greater strain, on finite resources...a bad thing.

I think you're misusing the term "finite." It's technically true, there is a limit to how much of a given substance exists and can be manufactured from what exists on this planet. Some specific resources (like oil) might substantially run out over the next century. But the sum of all resources is radically larger than anything humanity can expect to consume over the next ten lifetimes. To treat "resources" generally as finite is to deal with the world in the abstract, anticipating cataclysm from causes that may or may not happen within the next thousand or ten thousand years.

We're nowhere near running out of such resources as metals, silicon, air, and land area, wood, sunlight, wind, food, or total biomass. We're not running out of "resources" generally, but only a few replaceable sliver-narrow classifications of resources. If you want to be accurate, be specific.

My posts are pretty dry, it's true. I prefer dry truth to the flashy irrelevance of TV news.

I was the 4,537,394,261st person alive on Earth when I was born.

And I was the 79,178,037,520th person to have lived since history began.

The current population of my country - the United Kingdom - is 62,187,062.

The current population of Canada is 34,161,411.
