The term has another use that I've never heard it put to. The way in which debt limits political choices in a country. The whole West has really been Debtocracies for decades now. Canadian politics is very clearly driven by the debt constraint. Debtocracy, never heard the word before but it's a good one.

We were fortunate that our Debt become a crisis when it did. Gave us time to fix it(for the most part)and prevented us from falling into the trap so many others are now in. Given how this crisis is dragging on though, what we did may not be enough to prevent us from being dragged down with the rest of them. Now all we can do is to wait and see what happens elsewhere.
