I was just waiting for this:

Quote:
Female suicide bomber kills dozens in Iraq

At least 41 people have been killed and 106 injured by a female suicide bomber in north-east Baghdad, an interior ministry spokesman has said.

The woman detonated an explosives vest among a group of pilgrims making the journey to Karbala, 80km from Baghdad. A witness described seeing a fireball.

The Shia pilgrims were marking Arbaeen, the end of 40 days of mourning for the death of Prophet Muhammad's grandson.

Troops and police are on alert during the pilgrimage.

The bomber had hidden the explosives under her abaya - a long, black over-garment, Maj Gen Qassim al-Moussawi told the Associated Press news agency.

We do not need to EVER hear such a story with a byline coming from a Western nation.

Banning the burkahs wouldn't prevent such actions.

This is an issue the USA flirts with too much, the idea of banning things associated with certain acts, but having no real sway in the end result.

Now, the only way to refute the above case is that you could hide anything under a sweater. We have large jackets/over-coats in North America, and things could be hid under them as well. They don't cause the death, and are instead merely an accessory. They are not a weapon.

We don't need to be banning clothing. Especially not in a move to prevent terrorism.

Just my delusional opinion, I guess.

Funny you should say that. In a satrical story I wrote recently, clothes are banned altogether to stop the terrorists. I guess it's not satire anymore!

Yep. The issue with burkas was about covering the face. Very few suiciders stash their bombs in their faces. But if now we're going to ban bulky clothing, the rest of Canada is going to be in trouble. It'll work in Vancouver tho.

Not that delusional imo. The only place w need to be infringing on people's rights to the point of telling them how to dress is in situations where it is important to be able to positively id people. ie you have to remove your veil at the airport so security knows that the passport is yours, and other such situations.

With all the problems with obesity in North America, can you be certain that pot isn’t a bomb? Are they pregnant or is it a bomb? Is the “pants on the floor” guy making a fashion statement or is all that “empty space” filled with a bomb?

Well then, I guess we just wait until enough of us die and then we'll do something about the problem.

The suicide bombing an sich is a problem, not so much the clothing, imho. Anyone could hide shit everywhere (underpants, body-cavity...)...

I am not a fan of burqa's, I rather see them disappear completely. I quit a nightshift job because of it 15 years ago.

We'll call this an 'anecdote', okay?

I've heard tell of a situation where a group of burkha clad 'women' rushed a security checkpoint in the mistaken belief that as women they would not be fired upon. They were wrong. Reportedly, when the firing commenced more than a few of the women exploded.

Upon investigation, the 'women' were just men wearing burkhas to conceal their explosives and weapons.

In short, I guess the bottom line is that so long as we allow Muslims into our countries we also run the risk of them running amok. Just me, but I'd rather enjoy the 'diversity' of letting the Muslims live in their own countries as opposed to colonizing our countries.
For instance, Mexico and Japan have no such problems with Muslims because Muslims are not allowed to settle in Mexico and Japan.

As far as I am concerned Muslims are welcome. Just leave the burqa's home... When in Rome...

But yeah, stories like that are scary.

Great let's modify our behavior out of fear. That will totally tell the terrorists what for.

Seriously I'm already sick of all the restrictions on airlines without the government taking control of dress as well. I would rather promote freedom of women rather then make more laws.

In the end both will result in the Burka being a thing of the past. The difference is force vs intelligence. I know where I stand.

That was "ridiculous", okay?

I don’t know what to think of that post. Paranoia in the form of “simple” xenophobia, or could it be paranoia based on ignorance and intolerance?

I guess it doesn’t matter. In your mind Muslim clearly equals terrorist. Let me expand that for you. Fundamentalist religion of any type MIGHT equal terrorism, but not necessarily. Before pointing fingers at one particular “religion” coming into your country, take a closer look at some of the fundamentalists of the Christian persuasion already there. Fundamentalist Christians that kill abortion doctors. Fundamentalist Christians that kill blacks. Fundamentalist Christians that “marry” multiple little girls with impunity. Fundamentalist Christians that fear their own government and blow up day care centres.

Need I go on?

So you and your bullshit party can't force this misery and bullshit on this society some more? Like the system is fucking working, right? Just can't wait for a tragedy, because the blind anger will make you so delusional that your bullshit unconstitutional actions are justified and praised. Fantastic point of view.

There's a difference between one individual and an entire party thank you. That and there is far more to Bart then a single idea or thread. Thanks.
