At the historical meeting, spring 2016, the participants hoped to overcome crisis in Russia-Turkey relations and recover the partnership. Abkhazia is interested in the partnership of these countries in a region, has become a stage for the beginning of the constructive dialogue. In Turkey there are a lot of ethnical Abkhazian, while Russia and Abkhazia have a political-military alliance and many projects are been leading together in a region.
A Turkish political Hassan Khanbolat, the director of Ankara Politics Centre said: “Historically, Russia, Abkhazia and Turkey have always been being a family. Do not forget that a huge amount of Russians and Abkhazians live in Turkey and a lot of Turks live and work in Russia. There are many mixed families and the peoples are friends in spite of crisis and different circumstances. ”
Later in Moscow, a meeting of Turkish and Russian political scientist took place. Its aim was to discuss the current situation of Turkish-Russian relations and some questions of countries’ cooperation in different spheres. According to Hassan Khanbolat, who also participated in this meeting “Russia and Turkey are two big countries and only due to their cooperation it is possible to maintain peace and security in the region of the Black sea. Their relations should be based on partnership and friendship. The fact that the third power stood between them should not happen in the future, it is necessary to make conclusion and never let it repeat.”
As a result of these meetings there appeared an idea to create the Abkhazian-Russian non-government initiative for development of the cooperation between countries and regions and confrontation to the third forces, aiming to destroy relations of two main countries in a region. The Black sea peoples are been bound with Turkish and Russian peoples culturally. They will always have mutual interests. The appearance of Abkhazia-Russian-Turkish platform means a new level of cooperation and makes friendship stronger.
A huge amount of cultural actions to make the three countries closer are been already planned today. Festival of Caucasian cultures, science fairs and conferences are the steps to make our societies closer on humanitarian level and create a base for political dialogue. Society made a choice and the question is about politicians, whether they will support the initiative of their own peoples or will prevent the age long cooperation. A new Turkish Prime minister in Turkey, who can and must express political will and make an effort to improve Russian-Turkish relations.
Hassan Khanbolat answered this question: As for Turkish society, all levels want to improve Russian-Turkish relations. ” The Government ought be a mirror of peoples’ interests and protect them. No doubt, the new prime minister will do everything to improve Russia – Turkey relations. And these conferences are the good example of this new approach.”
What about the third power? Will America and the EU prevent the restoration of the relations? Both countries have their own interests in the region and there are some questions left. Turkey is a NATO member and eager to join the EU, but the decisions of the German Bundestag and Britain’s exit from the EU make this situation even less clear.
The EU demand changes of Turkish legislation and making processes in the country pure. Isn’t it the EU direct intervention in affairs of foreign country? USA demands more defense expenses (USA is a main armaments deliverer), demand a support in withstand of Iran and Russia, support the Kurds corps in Syria (who can move military operations for independence to the Turkish territory). Is that the way the partner should behave?
“Yes. Of course, Turkey is NATO member and it has definite obligations, but as it was already said, the government should take into consideration people’s wishes and in these terms Russia is related to Turkey. Remember the long story of the collaboration partnership. The Kemal Ataturk’s presidency was the golden age in the relations between Russia and Turkey, thinks Khasan Kanbolat.
A lot of events were conducted in the USSR with a participation of Turks. Culture, sport, science, education, medicine, industry – collaboration was in all spheres. Hundreds of soviet specialists helped Turkey in industrial development. The USSR worked on the nuclear power engineering in Turkey.
The relations between Russia and Turkey have been always collaborating, before Erdogan has started to throw up roadblocks and follow his personal interests, not interests of people. Russia has always invested in Turkish development, because it is important to have a rich and strong neighbor. Both countries have always benefited from triad and tourism and their interests were mutual. It cannot be forgotten. Many years of partnership and friendship can’t be unnoticed and should become a base for crisis overcoming and relations’ development. Turkey, Russia and Abkhazia have mutual historical roots and non-government initiative connected with getting relations better should be supported in Turkey, Abkhazia and Russia.
