Are these dumbshits actually trying to provoke a military reponse from the West? This action seems to say so. Perhaps the next time Iranian military vessels enter Iraqi waters they should be made into artificial reefs and their crews should become fish food, or should Western forces wait for them to bother crossing the boundary?

Sounds more like they are trying to show the rest of the Muslim world that they are big and bad and not affriad of the west. Kind of sad realy when one thinks about the resluts if the west ever realy gets PO'ed at them.

Iran seems to beg for a fight then backs off when the west gears up for one.

That's because its in their interests to ratchet up the tension. Ever time the saber-rattling gets louder, oil prices go up. and every time oil prices go up, Iran gets more money to do stuff with whether it be investing in in infrastructure or buying weapons.

Just read that over at canoe. I think stratos is right. More muscle flexing by the Iranians. Why they insist on poking bears and sharks in the eye over and over is beyond me. There has to me someone in the food chain over there that understands they would last about a solid week against either the US or the UK.

They know that at the moment war is not a popular thing with the American public....It is a prime time to rasie the price of oil.
Either that or someone really important in Iran had a shiny new beamer on that boat.

Maybe and just maybe they (Iran) simply "enjoy" being told what and what not to do, and just about as much as we (Canada) might "enjoy" it, if someone else was telling us what and what not we can do as a sovereign nation. It's human in nature. That's why soldiers are "trained" to take orders.

Soldiers take orders by their own country. I doubt many in the Royal Navy wish to be under Iranian command or are defecting to them. Iran is looking for a war and maybe we should just give them one and watch their country crumble from it. It wouldn't really be a war for keeps but a good old fashioned one to destroy them. Only problem is they will just bomb Israel in the process and if they have nuclear weapons could destroy them. Other than that we won't see anymore of their ships harassing ours after because none will be left and their ports will be gone.

I don't really think anyone cares what "Iran wants". Somewhere allong the lines, the chanting for the distruction of a sovereign, democratic country must be a clue that Iran's run by madmen.

Personally, I'd get the guys back then flood that area with subs and start torpedoing Irans warships as soon as they leave port.

Could say the same about this quote? :P

You are saying Iran or like Canada may enjoy taking orders from other countries I really doubt that. So I stated I doubt the Royal Navy likes Iran boarding their ships and I doubt their sailors like Iran telling them what to do. I doubt many Canadian sailors would like Iran giving us orders or infringing on our sovereignty or would like a numerous amount of countries to do so. I think Canadians like working under Canadian officers more at least I would. But I guess some of the soldiers could answer that if they like being under Canadian command or do they prefer to be under other's nation's command? Or have another country and people giving you orders?

the Iranians are more than capable of inflicting a bloody nose to the US and UK forces in the area, the question is whether the Iranian generals want to risk their troops on the behalf of a President and govt that probably won't last too long as it is.

Dream on! The brass is not that dumb. The only success they would have would be the result of a "Pearl Harbour" style attack and the US/UK forces are very watchful of that and already have rules of engagement cut....depending on the scale of the threat. That is precisely the reason for the US Navy deploying such force to the Gulf. One Nimitz class carrier battle group is capable of single-handedly winning a war with Iran without resorting to nukes.

CBC news at noon said that the British sailors were actually in Iranian (not Iraq) territorial waters and have been captured.

The Iran government must keep the smuggling lanes open to Iraq what.
