Libya claims it will impose 'moderate shariah law and Islamist party claims victory in Tunisia. Next comes Egyptand then if the West turns its eyes on Syria that will be the next to fall. Iraq is still up in the air and no one can predict what will happen there. The leaders ousted by the revolutions may prove to have been the lesser of the evils. Under them the people's standard of living increased, literacy rates rose, infant mortality rates fell, life expectancy rose, women's rights were protected their countries were the most egalitarian in the Arab/Muslim world. Have we opened a Pandora's Box by supporting those who overthrew their strongmen?

"Sharia Law" covers a vast swath of Laws and Implementations. It doesn't mean women will be stoned in the streets anymore than nations who have implementations of British Common Law drive on the Left side of the road.

the fail is strong in this one.

You'd fit in well in the ME and North Africa, as there is plenty of sand to bury your head in.

Sorry, no Fail here. It is a form of Law, not an exact copy of laws. Perhaps you missed the word "moderate"?

I heard that sharia bans cousins from marrying each other. If true it means that the Muzzies are at least half a step above most of the southern states and, surprisingly, California too. :P

Figures that you have nothing.

At least wait a bit before throwing in the towel. There are vast differences between the Nations which use Sharia Law.

And I would say just wait. Most of the countries that revolted this spring don't exactly have a long democratic tradition to build upon. They're learning as they go. To expect a Jeffersonion-like democracy overnight is unreasonable.

Exactly. As long as they don't go the full theocracy route, and start moving toward the Turkish model, that would be good. The Turkish prime minister was in Egypt recently preaching secularism, even tho he's in a religious party. Really do different than some of the Republicon candidates.
